Connective is hiring young talent seeking valuable summer experience in the social services sector to join our Outreach Worker teams in Surrey and Abbotsford.
ROLE PURPOSE
In this position you provide various support to clients within a community setting to meet the clients’ emotional, personal and physical needs. We designed this position to foster learning of its incumbent and will provide hands-on learning opportunities.
Our Outreach and Community Inclusion programs help individuals access services, build connections, and develop life skills. We work one-on-one with service users to set and achieve goals, fostering greater independence and community engagement. Supports may include employment, housing, healthy relationships, and social or recreational opportunities.
STATUS
Compensation for this position will be $25.95.
Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.

STATUS
- This is an exempt position.
- We have one position available to work with our Surrey and Abbotsford.
- This is a temporary Summer 2026 position for 8 weeks.
- This position is open to applicants of all genders.
- This position is 35 hours per week and will start immediately as soon as the right individual(s) is identified.
- Hours must be completed between Monday and Friday 9:00 am and 5:00 pm (as per grant rules).
- All hours of this position will must be completed by Friday August 28, 2026 (as per grant rules).
- Understanding of providing service to people with mental health challenges, intellectual disabilities and/or different learning abilities
- Learn to develop programs tailored to the particular diverse needs of the individual served
- Working with clients with a developmental disability and/or spectrum disorders, interaction with social agencies, experiencing psychiatric/personality disorders and history of conflict with the law
- Gain experience in assessment, case/care plan development and implementation
- MANDT Training (Crisis-Intervention)
- Naloxone Training
- Training 1:1 with Manager or designate 3-4 days – more provided if required
- Review of all applicable Policy and Procedures
- Systems training, student will be trained on all applicable systems to complete responsibilities
- Will have an opportunity to take service sector related webinars and/or other trainings
- As an Outreach Worker, your responsibilities will include:
- Works with the client, researches background material, and seeks the input of other professionals and family members, to provide the assessment that will ascertain needs and postulate intervention possibilities
- Works with the client to consider issues and creates a mutually agreed intervention and support plan that has measurable short and long-term goals
- Ensures issues of daily living, including but not limited to housing, nutrition, clothing, hygiene, leisure lifestyle and access, employment, and education are addressed in this plan
- Ensures the client’s ongoing legal, mental, and physical health issues are addressed in the plan
- When and as needed, provides a wide range of interventions to enable the client to address and accomplish the established goals
- Interacts with other professionals, family members, and organizations to ensure services, admissions, and treatments are in the client’s interest and supportive of the long-term goals
- Post-Secondary educational background in Social Services/Criminology/Psychology
- Professional or lived experience working with vulnerable populations facing multiple barriers
- Understanding or knowledge of Harm Reduction principles and willingness to learn to apply these principles within a work environment
- Demonstrated ability to respond efficiently in crisis and escalated situations
- Ability to work independently out in the community in undesirable conditions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Meet all the eligibility requirements as set out by the Canada Summer Grant program
- Valid BC class 5 driver’s license
- Personal transportation in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and suitable for client transport
- Permanent Residency or Canadian Citizenship
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check/Enhanced Security Clearance and reference checks
- Current WorkSafe Approved First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
