Full job description

Commissionaires BC is seeking dedicated and professional Enhanced Security Guards to join our team at a Surrey CBSA detention centre location.

In this role, you will be responsible for helping maintain a safe and secure environment by monitoring individuals in custody, enforcing site procedures, supporting daily operations, and responding to incidents as required. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in a specialized federal security environment while working alongside a professional and supportive team.

This is a casual/on-call position, and candidates with flexible availability are preferred.

Location: Surrey, BC
Pay Rate: Starting at $27.57/hour

Please note: Due to security clearance requirements, successful applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety and security of individuals in custody, including monitoring high-risk individuals at various locations.
  • Oversee and manage designated areas, controlling access and maintaining security protocols.
  • Conduct routine and random searches of premises, reporting any irregularities and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.
  • Manage intake procedures, document personal belongings, and ensure proper handling of items in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively using radio equipment and follow standard communication protocols.
  • Administer basic first aid, CPR, and other emergency responses as required, documenting incidents appropriately.
  • Apply approved use-of-force techniques and assist in restraining or controlling individuals when necessary, while maintaining safety and professionalism.
  • Complete accurate reports, logs, and documentation related to security activities and incidents.
  • Conduct wellness checks and monitor individuals for safety concerns, including self-harm prevention and related activities.
  • Identify, document, and appropriately handle prohibited items or contraband discovered during searches.
  • Support other site personnel and assist with operational requirements as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Valid BC Security Worker Licence
  • Basic First Aid (OFA 1) certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Advanced Security Training (AST) certification, or planning to obtain
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident who has resided in Canada for the last five (5) years or more
  • Minimum one (1) year of security experience, preferably in a detention, corrections, healthcare, law enforcement, or similar environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong observation and report-writing abilities
  • Ability to remain professional and effective in high-pressure situations
  • Ability to complete and maintain all required site-specific training and clearances
Assets:
  • Flexible availability, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Experience working in detention, custodial, corrections, healthcare, or mental health environments
  • Additional training in conflict resolution, crisis intervention, or emergency response
