About the Consultant Role
Join Meridian’s consulting team as a Consultant, Executive Compensation. In this role, you’ll support our Partners, Principals, and Senior Consultants by conducting research and data analysis that informs executive compensation strategies across diverse industries. You’ll build on your prior professional services experience through exposure to complex client engagements, collaboration with experienced consultants, and the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in executive compensation and corporate governance.
You’ll conduct industry research, prepare peer group analyses, benchmark executive compensation, and support the analysis of compensation programs and company performance. You’ll also prepare client-ready presentations, reports, and other materials for discussions with senior executives and boards of directors, participate in client meetings as appropriate, and contribute to the successful delivery of multiple client engagements.
As you grow and develop in the role, you’ll take greater ownership of assigned deliverables, strengthen your project management and client communication skills, and expand your understanding of the business and governance considerations that shape executive compensation decisions. This is an opportunity to build a strong consulting foundation, contribute meaningfully to client work, and grow your career within the firm.
This is a full-time, hybrid role that combines in-office collaboration with the flexibility of remote work. Work arrangements may vary based on client needs, team priorities, and role responsibilities.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct research and analysis to benchmark executive pay, evaluate compensation structures, develop peer groups, and support executive compensation and governance engagements.
- Analyze executive compensation programs and company performance using Excel, Capital IQ, and other relevant tools, including maintaining structured analytical models, interpreting results, and identifying potential outliers or inconsistencies.
- Manage assigned tasks and deliverables across multiple client projects, clarifying expectations, meeting deadlines, and proactively communicating progress, questions, risks, or resource needs.
- Validate data, calculations, sources, assumptions, and presentation details before submitting work for review.
- Prepare client-ready presentations, reports, and memos, and communicate assigned findings clearly in internal and client discussions.
- Participate in client calls and internal meetings with professionalism, preparation, responsiveness, and reliable follow-through.
- Build foundational knowledge of executive compensation, including benchmarking, peer groups, incentive design, governance, accounting, tax, and regulatory considerations.
- Seek and apply feedback to strengthen technical proficiency, consulting effectiveness, and future work product.
- Contribute to RFPs, research, learning programs, and other initiatives that support broader firm priorities.
Who You Are
Knowledge and Interests:
- Strong interest in executive compensation, including benchmarking, peer group development, incentive design, financial performance, and corporate governance.
- Exposure to compensation, human resources, finance, accounting, corporate governance, or a related analytical discipline.
- Curiosity about the business, industry, and governance context underlying executive compensation decisions.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate working proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and the ability to build or maintain structured analytical workbooks and models.
- Interpret quantitative and qualitative data, identify outliers or inconsistencies, and explain findings clearly in business terms.
- Learn technical concepts quickly and apply new information accurately to client assignments.
- Communicate findings, questions, and potential issues clearly and concisely, and develop accurate, well-organized materials that can be refined with guidance to meet client-ready standards.
- Organize and prioritize multiple client assignments while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail; proficiency in Word and PowerPoint is required, and familiarity with Capital IQ or similar research tools is preferred.
Work Style and Attributes:
- Take ownership of assigned work and proactively communicate progress, questions, risks, or resource needs.
- Work independently within defined expectations while collaborating effectively in a lean, team-based consulting environment with colleagues and client teams.
- Seek and apply feedback to strengthen technical knowledge, work quality, and consulting effectiveness.
- Support colleagues when priorities shift while remaining accountable for individual commitments
- Demonstrate professionalism, composure, sound judgment, responsiveness, and consistent follow-through.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality while managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Education and Experience
- 1-2 years of compensation or executive compensation consulting experience; or client-facing consulting, accounting, advisory, valuation, or comparable professional-services environment
- Undergraduate degree, preferably with a concentration in finance, accounting, business, economics, or a related field.
- Experience supporting multiple clients, assignments, or competing deadlines
Physical Requirements:
Physical Demand Level: Light
- Ability to unilaterally and bilaterally lift, push, and pull 0-10 pounds frequently and 11-20 pounds occasionally
- Constant seeing, hearing, and talking
- Frequent fine motor skills including grasping/handling
- Occasional position changes (sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and crouching)
- Occasional reaching (forward, above shoulder, and below waist)
