Job Summary:

Discovery Family Health is recruiting to add to our high-performance medical administrative team. We are recruiting for a client focused professional with exceptional organizational skills and a great attitude. The Medical Secretary performs administrative and/or clinical tasks to support the work of physicians and other health professionals.

Duties include:

  • Maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Assisting in effective communication between physicians and patients by responding to incoming telephone calls/voicemails, taking and relaying messages, managing emails, and providing information
  • Ensuring office flow by checking in, documenting reason for visit and guiding scheduled patients to exam rooms
  • Organizing correspondence by answering phone calls, sorting and distributing mail, scanning paper and electronic records or faxes
  • Managing patient referrals by arranging referrals to other health care providers; scheduling appointments for consultations and diagnostic imaging; tracking referrals and following up on consult notes.
  • Performing other related duties within the clinic may be assigned

Performance requirements:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and specialized vocabulary as required
  • Proficiency in the use of computers including office software, medical record management software (EMR) and email management
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical and clinic staff and the public
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
  • Strong grammar and spelling

This is a contract role with full time weekday and possible weekend hours.
