Title: Trader – Asia (Far East)

Department: Trading

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Toronto

JOB OVERVIEW

As a Trader, you will play a pivotal role in driving business growth and ensuring operational excellence in the international trade of commodities, with a focus on the Far East Asia markets. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of activities, ranging from market analysis and customer relationship management to inter-company coordination and process optimization.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Aggressively target Far East Asia markets to generate business – expand network of customers and develop current customers.
  • Management of trade operations in the Far East Asia regions and other neighbouring countries.
  • Strong risk management skills and knowledge: proactively manage for optimal outcomes.
  • Keep up to date with grain trends and market conditions to ensure competitiveness.
  • Manage contracts from the point of shipping to receiving proper payments with contract terms.
  • Management of joint positions taken with external agencies and business partners – responsible for coordination and pricing for these joint positions
  • Facilitating communication and collaboration between different departments within the company, ensuring smooth coordination of activities such as procurement, logistics, finance, and sales.
  • Responsible for process optimization and continuous improvement on the execution of inter-company activities
  • Administer, promote, and adhere to purchase, sale, and production contracts, ensuring compliance with all related policies and process.
  • Conduct market research to identify new opportunities in global markets. Expand the company’s network of suppliers and customers, developing long-term strategic relationships.
  • Proactively manage market risks, including price volatility, supply disruptions, and geopolitical factors, to optimize profitability and ensure portfolio stability.
  • Act as a brand ambassador by fostering strong relationships with key global stakeholders, including producers, suppliers, customers, and brokers.
  • Work closely with the supply chain and logistics teams to ensure smooth execution of contracts, manage shipping and transportation, and ensure timely delivery of products.
  • Oversee purchase and sales contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and international trade regulations. Manage contracts from shipment to payment, ensuring alignment with contract terms.
  • Develop and implement both short- and long-term strategies for market growth, including setting and achieving financial and operational targets.
  • Keep up to date with global market trends, pricing, and production dynamics to remain competitive and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and operations, to drive business goals and maximize portfolio profitability.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Agribusiness, Economics, or related field.
  • A fundamental understanding of the supply chain and logistics of agricultural business.
  • Possess and demonstrated leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
  • Willingness to partner with an executive leadership team, resulting in the development and implementation of creative business strategies.
  • Knowledge of international trade terms and risks.
  • Ability to adjust with customer and region needs

Pay: $75,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
