Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced Transportation Safety Manager to oversee and enhance the safety protocols within our fleet operations. This candidate will be responsible to ensure all Drivers comply with applicable legislation, including safe operation, carriage of goods, drivers' hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration, and weights and dimensions. This ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Canada and U.S. DOT regulations, FMCSA guidelines, and a strong background in driver safety training, fuel management, camera systems, and electric logging devices (ELDs).This position will oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards. This role will also maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records that are in compliance with legislative requirements. The Safety manager must possess degree or an advanced degree in management, or a field related to the transportation industry and five years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in the transportation industry. Knowledge in managing and obtaining certifications, such as, CTPAT, ISO90001, ISO14001, ISO45001 can be an asset.

Job Duties

  • Ensure all drivers comply with applicable legislation, including safe operation, carriage of goods, drivers' hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration, and weights and dimensions
  • Ensure company safety programs meet or exceed all provincial and federal safety guidelines.
  • Ensure companies’ safety policies and procedures are communicated to all drivers, drivers, and owner operators and are acknowledged by everyone and such acknowledgements exist in files maintained by the company.
  • Ensure adequate and up to date documentation exists and is available to driver and owner operators on topics such as load securement – Trip inspections Logbooks and hours of service requirements etc.
  • Ensure an active updated and current and efficient and effective training program exists for all drivers directly engaged in the transport of goods and services.
  • Review driver evaluations and recommend creative recruitment or training policies to reduce turnover and increase employee retention.
  • Ensure the company is using the latest and most sound technology to monitor driver behavior and is proactive in its approach to accident prevention and claim minimization
  • Ensure company has implemented procedures to minimize driver infractions of all kinds.
  • Conduct internal investigations to determine root causes of traffic violations and accidents and recommend and assist in the implementation of corrective actions on regular basis.
  • Ensure claims are minimized in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure all equipment, driver and claims files are to date and conduct periodic review of random files to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records that are in compliance with legislative requirements
  • Provide employee training, ensuring that all applicable compliance requirements are met
  • Ensure the effectiveness of drivers through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal
  • Ensure that all drivers comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards
  • Ensure drivers have clear goals and are aware of expectations

Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
