Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Wellness leads the Department and the day-to-day delivery of resident health and personal care services. Accountable for safe, high-quality care, regulatory compliance and strong resident/family experience. This role provides clinical leadership to support resident wellbeing.

Wage Rate: The starting annual salary is $75,000.

Vacancy: This is an existing vacancy.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead resident care, assessments, and care planning
  • Assigns, delegates and evaluates the activities of the nursing department
  • Plans, assigns and oversees the Residents’ health and personal care services
  • Oversee resident assessments and ensure individualized care plans are developed, implemented, and updated as needs change.
  • Organize and participate in care conferences on admission and at regular intervals (and when resident conditions change).
  • Maintain accurate, complete health records and ensure documentation meets internal and regulatory expectations.
  • Lead and support Move-ins, suitability, and transitions
  • Review pre-admission information and participate in move-in processes to confirm the home can safely meet care needs.
  • Communicate care level changes and support residents/families through transitions, including higher levels of care when appropriate.
  • Medication management, pharmacy partnership, and clinical oversight
  • Assumes responsibility for medication administration, narcotic control, application of treatments and dressings, transcription of Physician’s orders, reordering of medications, writing phone orders from prescriptions and other clinical skills. This also includes ordering of lab and X-ray requisition ordered by the Physician. Ensure Pharmacy audits are complete and reviewed with the nursing team to improve performance and outcomes.
  • Implements and monitor quality, risk, critical incidents, and compliance
  • Oversee incident response and required reporting (including critical incidents to RHRA when applicable), ensuring documentation and follow-up actions are completed.
  • Reporting of critical incidents to RHRA, including documentation in the care plan, and informing the Executive Director of the incident.
  • Serve as the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Coordinator, including education, monitoring practices, and supporting outbreak preparedness as required.
  • Lead and support staffing, scheduling, performance, and education
  • Recruit, onboard, coach, and evaluate nursing staff; complete performance appraisals as required.
  • Develop and maintain staffing schedules to align coverage with occupancy and resident needs.
  • Provide ongoing education/in-services to strengthen practice, documentation, and compliance.
  • Enhance and monitor resident and family experience
  • Build trusting relationships with residents/families; address concerns and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate communications related to health status changes, medication changes, appointments, transportation, and follow-up needs.
  • Coordinates and interacts with contract providers for services that are required for residents, including set up and removal of equipment.
  • Promotes the Vision, Mission and Values of the Home and the Residents’ Bill of Rights
  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated in the Job Task Inventory

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

  • Registration: Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), with no terms, conditions, or limitations requiring supervision.
  • Candidates registered as an RN/RPN in another Canadian jurisdiction who are eligible to practice in Ontario will be considered.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with electronic documentation systems.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in retirement/senior living or a comparable clinical leadership environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Retirement Homes Act (RHA) and other applicable legislation/standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with residents, families, staff, physicians, and community partners.
  • Effective communication skills
  • Familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and committed to a culture of safety and quality.
  • People-centered approach: Demonstrated ability to lead with empathy, support resident dignity and rights, and create positive, respectful interactions.
  • To undertake and meet all legal requirements within the context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk
  • Must provide Vulnerable Sector Check (including Criminal Background Check) completed within the last six (6) months (or willingness to obtain).
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements
  • Two supervisory references required
  • Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.
