EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Position Title: Community Support Worker - Casual

Program /Team: Community Inclusion Programs - Various

Hours of Work: Between 8:30am – 3:00pm, Monday to Friday

Bargaining Unit: Unionized (BCGEU)

Salary: $25.95 per hour – Grid 10, Step 1

Location: Darwin Avenue, Victoria

Department Overview – Community Inclusion Programs

The Community Inclusion Team provides essential support to individuals with complex developmental disabilities, helping them build meaningful connections and thrive in their communities. Our dedicated staff offer personalized assistance with communication, behavior, personal care, and social interaction. Each client receives services tailored through individual assessments to meet their specific needs and preferences. We offer flexible daily schedules that include community outings, recreational activities, and volunteer opportunities to promote social inclusion and independence.

Our Programs:

STARR: Our STARR team facilitates regular community outings, volunteering and recreational activities, providing support for clients with high emotional and behavioral needs to actively participate.

DISCO: The Discovery team focuses on enhancing social and communication skills through visual cues, verbal prompts, and structured activities, fostering meaningful interactions and relationships.

DREAMS: The DREAMS team supports clients requiring significant physical and personal care assistance, offering opportunities for independent choices and participation in recreational and social activities.

Community Access Team (CAT): CAT empowers individuals to develop social connections and contribute to the community through volunteering and recreation.

COSMOS: The COSMOS team supports young adults on the autism spectrum, facilitating daily life activities and routines tailored to individual needs.

Pathways: Pathways provides social, recreational, and health supports for aging adults with developmental disabilities.

MOZART: Our newest program, MOZART, offers a specialized and calm environment for individuals transitioning into the community. This program prioritizes predictability and individualized support, focusing on skill development in communication, baking, music, and technology, alongside community-based volunteering and enriching activities.

Skills and Abilities

In this role, you’ll support the well-being, independence, and community inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities through personalized, activity-based support. You’ll facilitate emotional, social, and life skills development, provide personal care when needed, and respond effectively to emergencies. Key responsibilities include documenting progress, maintaining health and safety standards, and offering respectful, hands-on assistance. Your experience in behavior management and community-based support will help empower individuals to thrive - join us in making a meaningful impact.

Required qualifications includes the following:

  • A diploma in human services or a related field and/or relevant experience.
  • One year of relevant experience within the social service sector.
  • Experience in the delivery of personal care
  • First Aid and CPR required.
  • Computer literacy
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • The successful candidate needs to be able to support clients in a water setting (pool) environment, must have a BC Class 5 driving license and able to drive a small SUV/van size vehicle. An international license will not be accepted.
