Full job description

Nursing positions (1) – RPN : Self-Directed Home Care (private sector)

Type of employment: Part-time, permanent, self -employed

Available shifts: 1-day/evening

Available hours: 16 hours/week

Pay scale: $32/h to start (please see below for further information)

Job Description:

This position is located in Ajax, Ontario. The pay rate starts at $32/h and is non-negotiable. Upon completion of your probationary period you maybe eligible to re-negotiate your salary. Probation will last 6 months. This employment is self employment and not an agency position. The family is looking for a nurse work with their son 1:1 in their home. It is a family home setting and training is provided to the candidate for all daily care/routine. The schedule is fixed weekly and based on coverage needed to support the family. Please note there are other nurses working in the home and hours listed are the hours needed to be filled. If you can not work afternoon hours please do not apply as there are no other shifts available at this time to work with this family.

Currently hiring for the following shifts:

1 Nurse for the following shifts:

3 shifts a week after school shifts:

Monday- 3pm- 10pm

Tuesday- 2pm- 10pm

* The family is flexible is with what days during the week the candidate can work but you must be available for two afternoon shifts weekly on the same days every week for continuity in the schedule.

Availability for one Saturday a month, the shift runs from 7am-5pm ( you may not be scheduled for a Saturday, however they ask that you be available for one Saturday a month).

The following skill are preferred and considered an asset:

· Experience with different types of seizures and dystonia (movement disorder) and working with non-verbal clients.

· Exposure to the VNS (vagus nerve stimulator) technology.

· Medication administration, including but not limited to via G-tube, nebulization, intranasal, buccal and rectum.

· Nasopharyngeal suctioning.

*The nurse must possess strong chest assessment skills (able to identify different chest sounds and needed interventions). This is non-negotiable and a must as the client is prone to aspiration pneumonia. This role is autonomous, so you will need to know how to identify respiratory changes, treatments needed, understand how to read doctors orders for further instructions and follow nursing care plans in place for additional information. (NURSES EXPECTED TO BRING A STETHOSCOPE TO EVERY SHIFT).

· Basic wound care including the ability to identify the different stages of a pressure injuries and treatments.

· Ability to lift 50 lbs and to operate a push wheelchair, ceiling track for sling lift transfers and be able to stand on your feet for extended periods of time.

· Bi-Pap knowledge and understanding. (Training on the personal machine will be provided).

Professional Requirements:

· Current CPR and first aid

· Recent police check (must have been done within the last 6 months of acceptance of employment or applied for immediately upon acceptance of the job)

· College of Nursing of Ontario registration in good standings.

- Liability Insurance for practice. *If you are unsure what kind of insurance you need, please ask. Liability insurance is a must for employment as it is a requirement to maintain nursing registration.(ie-RNAO or WeRPN(RPNAO))
