THERAPEUTIC RECREATIONIST- CASUAL POSITION

CASUAL POSITION.

Rate: as per current SEIU contract (first 375 hours probationary rate $23.93, increasing to $24.19 after probation)

Start date: ASAP

Job summary: Victoria Gardens LTC in Hamilton is a 76 bed long term care facility with a current opening for a casual recreationist.

Ideal Qualifications:
*Must have effective written and verbal English communication skills
*Must possess effective organizational and interpersonal skills
*Experience in program planning, implementation, documentation and evaluation
*experience with long term care population including elderly, Alzheimer's, and psychogeriatric.
*Must be enthusiastic, motivated, and able to multi-task
*Knowledgeable in LTC developmental trends eg. Montessori, responsive behaviours etc.

Education and training:
*Degree or diploma in activation, or recreation and leisure studies (with at least 3 courses deemed therapeutic). Additional training such as Palliative Care, Restorative Care, GPA, Montessori etc., are an asset.

Responsibilities:
* Comply with organizational policies and procedures, including IPAC.
* Participate in planning, organization and implementation of programs offered including 1:1, small group, large group, therapeutic, special events and outings.
* Support in the care and maintenance of facility animals (cats)

* Complete resident assessments and establish goals based on resident needs
* Complete required documentation including, but not limited to: attendance (Activity Pro), progress notes, audits.
* Participate in the homes CQI process including assessments, evaluations, and audits
* Work in co-operation with other team members, volunteers and other allied therapists eg. physiotherapists, art therapist, social worker etc.
* Participate in department meetings, interdisciplinary meetings, and various team functions when required
* Maintain current educational requirements and seek out educational opportunities, including attendance at facility in-service sessions
* Other duties as assigned
