Full job description
A leading independent Montessori school for over 30 years, Bannockburn is recognized throughout Toronto for outstanding academic standards, a steadfast commitment to Montessori education, and deep respect for the potential in every child. Bannockburn is accredited by Montessori Canada and is a member of CIS Ontario. We are also a CAIS Candidate School.
Bannockburn is seeking a creative, organized, and highly skilled Communications Coordinator to lead the school’s day-to-day communications and support its marketing and community engagement initiatives. This role plays an important part in shaping how Bannockburn communicates its mission, vision, values, and achievements to current and prospective families, staff, and the broader community.
The Communications Coordinator will develop and implement effective communications across a range of platforms, ensuring that the Bannockburn brand is presented consistently, professionally, and engagingly. The successful candidate will be a strong writer and visual storyteller who can manage multiple projects, identify opportunities to enhance the school’s profile, and bring creativity and initiative to the role.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Communications & Marketing
- Develop and implement engaging communications that promote Bannockburn’s mission, programs, achievements, and community.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and professionalism across all school communications and marketing materials.
- Create and coordinate newsletters, emails, advertisements, publications, annual reports, yearbooks, signage, and other promotional materials.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of School and Publication Content Writer on communications and marketing initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the school’s profile, reputation, and engagement with current and prospective families.
Social Media & Digital Communications
- Manage the school’s social media platforms and develop engaging, consistent content.
- Create and curate photography, video, and written content that captures school life, student learning, events, and accomplishments.
- Monitor engagement and digital trends and adapt strategies to increase reach and strengthen Bannockburn’s online presence.
Website & Digital Platforms
- Maintain and update the school website, ensuring content is current, accurate, engaging, and aligned with the Bannockburn brand.
- Apply SEO and other best practices to improve website visibility and engagement.
- Support the implementation and ongoing management of the school’s student management system and other communications technology platforms.
Events & Community Engagement
- Attend and document school events as a “roaming reporter,” capturing photographs and video that showcase the Bannockburn experience.
- Develop timely content to promote events, celebrate achievements, and engage the school community across multiple platforms.
- Contribute positively and actively to the life of the school and its community.
Administration & School Support
- Manage the school’s communications database and related platforms.
- Provide administrative and general technology support to the school office, staff, teachers, students, and families as required.
- Serve as a welcoming and professional frontline contact for parents, visitors, staff, and students.
- Establish positive, professional relationships throughout the school community.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as required.
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, public relations, digital media, or a related role.
- Demonstrated experience creating and managing content across social media, websites, email, and other digital platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong visual storytelling and content creation abilities.
- Proficiency with social media platforms, website management (Wix or similar), Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing tools.
- Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp and student management systems; familiarity with AI tools for content creation is an asset.
- Knowledge of SEO and current digital communications and marketing practices.
- Photography and graphic design skills are an asset.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Creative, proactive, resourceful, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Professional, dependable, and committed to maintaining a high standard of work.
- Experience in an educational or community-based environment and/or working with children is an asset.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check, or willingness to obtain.
