JOB SUMMARY:
The RCMP Secretary provides confidential secretarial and administrative services to the RCMP Detachment. The position supports police operations by preparing documents, transcribing recorded statements, maintaining administrative records, responding to routine information requests within established privacy requirements and providing coverage for Dispatch Clerk and Detachment Clerk during absences. The incumbent is expected to work collaboratively with other staff to meet departmental administrative needs and maintain professional knowledge and technical competencies relevant to the position. The incumbent is privy to highly confidential and sensitive information and must display the utmost discretion and professionalism. Performs related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:
High School (Grade 12). Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance is required. Typing speed of 70 wpm with minimum accuracy of 95%. PRIME training and CPIC training are required or must be obtained within the trial period. Audio transcription proficiency, demonstrated through testing, training or related experience.

Experience: One (1) year of related administrative support experience in a role requiring the use of custom software applications and including at least three (3) months of experience providing service to the public. Previous experience in a policing, legal, emergency services, municipal or confidential records environment is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of administrative procedures, records management practices, computer applications, office technology, related police terminology and privacy, confidentiality and release of information requirements in a policing or public service environment. Demonstrated skill in accurately transcribing audio recordings, preparing records and correspondence, maintaining filing systems and communicating clearly with internal and external contacts. Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and tact when handling routine inquiries, records and sensitive information. Demonstrated initiative and the ability to function in an independent manner. Ability to organize competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment with interruptions. Ability to work within, and contribute to, a high-functioning team environment. Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of this position. Ability to learn and apply changing systems, procedures and policy requirements, support service continuity and approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.

PAY RATE:
This is a union position with the current pay rate of $37.03 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK:
7:45 am – 5:00 pm, Tuesday to Friday, 8.75 hours a day, 35 hours per week.
