About the role

Reporting to the Supervisor, the Cafe Attendant helps create a warm, neighbourhood cafe experience for residents, guests, and community visitors at The Bend. This role prepares regular and specialty coffees, serves ice cream and light menu items, supports POS transactions, and keeps the cafe and picnic area clean, stocked, and guest-ready.

Hourly Wage Range: $18.50 - 24.00/hr (Based on experience)


What you’re great at

  • Creating a friendly, inclusive, and welcoming guest experience.
  • Preparing coffee, specialty drinks, ice cream, and light cafe items with consistency and care.
  • Staying calm, organized, and service-focused during rushes or events.
  • Maintaining clean, stocked, and guest-ready work areas.
  • Communicating clearly, following direction, and working well with a team.

What you’ll be doing

  • Greet residents, guests, and visitors promptly and provide warm, professional service.
  • Prepare regular coffee, espresso drinks, specialty coffees, tea, cold beverages, and seasonal items to standard.
  • Scoop and serve ice cream safely and consistently.
  • Prepare and serve nachos and other light cafe menu items where applicable.
  • Operate the POS accurately and process payments.
  • Keep the cafe counter, equipment, seating area, and outdoor picnic area clean, tidy, stocked, and guest-ready.
  • Follow opening, closing, food-safety, cleaning, sanitation, and inventory routines.
  • For employees who are 19+, serve alcohol where applicable in accordance with The Bend’s procedures and required training.

What we’re looking for

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a barista, cafe, quick-service food, hospitality, or customer-facing role preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • POS/cash-handling experience, FoodSafe awareness, drink preparation skills, and safe food and beverage handling are assets.
  • Strong customer service, teamwork, communication, reliability, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Employees serving alcohol must be 19+ and follow all required alcohol-service procedures and training where applicable.
