Full job description

The Town of Millet is located on highway 2A between Leduc and Wetaskiwin. We have a population of 1, 890 residents. It is approximately a half hour drive from the south side of Edmonton.

Millet has everything to offer those who like the comfort of small town rural atmosphere, with easy access to full city service. The Town’s charm and friendly residents make Millet a community of choice. The parks, sports fields, trails and arena have helped make Millet a destination.

Under the direction of the CAO, the Bylaw Officer will enforce municipal bylaws, animal control as well as undertake the Town’s Health and safety.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for enforcement and education of municipal by-laws and regulations.
  • Enforcement of provincial legislation and municipal by-laws pertaining to minimum maintenance standards of property.
  • Investigate and respond to external inquiries and/or complaints pertaining to municipal by-laws .
  • Respond to complaints and investigate matters surrounding building maintenance and the privately- owned lands which surround them.
  • Seek compliance through negotiation and mediation, where applicable.
  • Issue warning and infraction notices to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws.
  • Conduct full investigations, including collecting evidence, witness statements, in accordance with authorizing legislation.
  • Prepare reports and update databases as required.
  • Prepare all necessary documentation to facilitate prosecution.
  • Responsible for all animal control in the Town of Millet.
  • Act as the Town’s Health and Safety Officer.
  • Other duties related to general by-law enforcement.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred - minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service orientation
  • Problem-solving skills, discretion, and good judgment when handling confidential/sensitive information
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and record-keeping skills
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Driver’s licence in good standing (no demerit points)
  • Flexible work shifts, including some evenings and weekends, if necessary.
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions, including walking or sitting for long periods
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates are an asset
  • Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check within 8 weeks of employment
  • The incumbent must be a self-starter and independent worker
  • The ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize activities and manage stress with a high degree of maturity and professionalism are critical
  • Reliable access to transportation is essential
  • A good driving record - a driver licence abstract will be required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00-$33.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
