About the Opportunity
Focus on the Family Canada is seeking an experienced, compassionate Christian counsellor to provide high-quality online counselling services to adult individuals across Canada. This role combines clinical excellence with a Christ-centred approach to care, supporting individuals from a variety of backgrounds while upholding the mission, values, and Statement of Faith of Focus on the Family Canada.
The Counselling and Care Ministries department provides Christian counsel and care for constituents who contact Focus Canada regarding difficult family, relationship, and personal issues. Team members articulate, communicate and explain Focus Canada’s Christian perspective through “front line” initial contact, Christian counselling and care services for individuals and groups, often offering prayer for those that they serve.
The successful candidate will be a skilled clinician who is passionate about helping people find hope, healing, and practical next steps through professional counselling.

Clinical Counselling

Provide approximately six professional online counselling (video and phone) sessions per client (adult individuals) to those seeking short-term support, while recognizing when referrals to longer-term care or specialized services is appropriate.

Conduct assessment of clients' presenting concerns and develop appropriate treatment goals and recommendations.

Integrate evidence-based counselling practices with a Christian worldview, while respecting the beliefs and backgrounds of each client.

About You:
-
A master's degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related discipline.
-
Current registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized Canadian professional regulatory body. Membership with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) is strongly preferred.
-
Minimum 5 years of experience providing counselling to adult clients and commitment to ongoing professional development.
-
Demonstrated experience conducting clinical assessment, treatment planning, and short-term counselling interventions.
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
-
Ability to build trust quickly and create a safe therapeutic environment.
-
Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a team to build good working relationships and a healthy, supportive team culture.
-
Sound judgment, professional boundaries, and ethical decision-making.
-
Proficiency with electronic health records and virtual counselling platforms, with strong organizational and documentation skills.
-
Experience working with pastors, ministry leaders, or faith-based organizations is considered an asset.
-
Experience providing online counselling is an asset.
