Dinner Cook

Summary of Position

We are a small 45 man work camp located 7 minutes outside of Fort St James. This is a 2 week on 2 week off evening cook position. Shift is 10am-8:30pm. You will work with a small team or people to prepare nutritious and hearty dinner meals for 20-60 guests per day, with an emphasis on classic comfort food. You will complete daily checklists, temperature logs, and prepare the weekly menu of home-style meals with a mix of favorite and seasonal dishes, including a German/European choice each week. Additionally when/if time allows you may help make sandwiches and cut fruits and vegetables for the lunch display. There may also be occasional requests for catering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, bake, roast, cook, steam or fry food products, including any meats, vegetables, starches and other provisions using ovens, fryers, and a variety of other kitchen equipment
  • Be comfortable using our standard recipe cards for the preparation of all products
  • Refer to your checklist at the start of each shift for assigned tasks, creating your own preplist in the process
  • communicate with your supervisor regularly to approve daily and weekly menu items, low inventory items
  • Complete provided daily opening and closing checklists for your position
  • Take payments from guests as required using our Square terminal
  • Understand and comply consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen policies and procedures
  • Take an active role in controlling food costs by following proper requisition of products from storage areas, product storage procedures, Anja’s standard recipes and waste control procedures
  • Ensure that BC food safety standards are met or exceeded
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, walls, floors, fryers, ovens, flat top range, and refrigeration equipment
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the company cleaning/maintenance schedules
  • Wash and sanitize your utensils and wares as you go
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement.
  • Promptly report equipment and food quality problems to supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements

A minimum of 5 years of experience in varied kitchen positions including food preparation, line cook and dinner cook is required.

  • You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • You pay great attention to detail and take pride in your work
  • You are punctual, on station and ready for work according to schedule
  • You are a competent communicator
  • You enjoy being part of a collaborative team
  • You are able to carry items up to 30 lbs., including boxes of meat or produce, trays with goods, large pots with foods, trash bags
  • You can lift, reach, bend, and stoop
  • You are able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 10 hours)
  • You hold a valid Canadian drivers license
  • You carry a current level one Food Safe Certificate
  • You have working knowledge of written and spoken English

Pay: $27.00-$33.00 per hour
