Full job description

Position Summary
The Cashier supports Food Services operations by providing accurate cash, credit, and meal-ticket transactions while delivering a high standard of customer service to patients, visitors, and team members. Working in accordance with established procedures, the Cashier supports cafeteria and vending operations through point-of-sale activities, stocking and merchandising, catering preparation, and the cleaning and sanitation of service equipment and dining areas. This role contributes to a safe, efficient, and welcoming food service environment by ensuring accuracy, food safety, and collaboration with the Nutrition & Food Services team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately receives and processes cash, meal tickets, and credit/debit payments for food and beverage purchases made in the
cafeteria.
  • Provides prompt, courteous, and professional customer service to patients, visitors, and team members.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and concerns, resolve issues when possible, or refer them appropriately.
  • Verifies cash receipts against cash register reports and balances transactions accordingly.
  • Prepares, verifies cash register floats and backup floats in accordance with established procedures.
  • Empties vending machines and accurately counts, records and reconciles cash.
  • Delivers end of day float to the switchboard as required.
  • Assists with stocking and merchandising of cafeteria and vending machines.
  • Supports catering preparation and service activities as required.
  • Ensuring meals are presented attractively and served at appropriate temperatures, reporting concerns to the Food Services
Supervisor(s), or Manager, Nutrition and Food Services.
  • Ensures equipment is used safely and in accordance with sanitation and food safety standards.
  • Cleans service equipment and cafeteria dining areas to maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
  • Reports hazards, equipment issues or safety concerns promptly
  • Participates in quality assurance activities and team meetings as required
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Nutrition and Food Services Supervisor, and/or direct manager.
Qualifications
Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year cashier experience required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year clerical experience preferred.


Skills and Traits

  • Must be able to meet the physical and emotional responsibilities of the role, including standing and walking for extended periods, frequent and repetitive pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as safely operating equipment.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, as outlined in the Physical Demands Analysis (PDA).
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and verbal communication, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Provides excellent customer service and contributes positively to teamwork and collaborative working relationships.
