Step Above Childcare Centre is looking for a versatile and energetic individual to join our team! Are you a cook looking to escape the grueling restaurant industry for stable, daytime, Monday-to-Friday hours? We are offering a unique, permanent role that combines kitchen operations with facility support.

We take pride in providing a clean, safe, and organized environment for our children and staff. This position makes you a core part of our daytime operations team, offering a set routine while keeping you active and engaged.

The Role & Timeline: To ensure smooth operations, this permanent position is structured into two phases:

• Phase 1: Full-Time Kitchen Operations (Immediate Need - Approx. 2 months): You will step in to completely run our kitchen to cover a staff leave.
• Phase 2: Permanent Facility Support & Backup Cook: Once our regular cook returns, you will transition into a permanent facility support role, keeping our daycare clean and running smoothly. Importantly, you will remain our primary backup cook to cover any future sick days or vacations.

Schedule & Hours:

• Monday to Friday, daytime hours (No nights, no weekends!)
• 8-hour shift with a 1-hour break (7 working hours daily)

Phase 1 Responsibilities (Kitchen Operations):

• Prepare breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks for all classrooms according to the provided menu.
• Serve meals to each classroom on time and at the appropriate temperature, working with staff to collect meal numbers.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including washing/sanitizing dishes, cleaning appliances, and removing trash/recyclables daily.
• Organize and put away all groceries, food orders, and non-food items, ensuring all food items are checked for expiration dates.

Phase 2 Responsibilities (Facility Support):

• Floor Maintenance: Sweep and mop hallways, entrances, and common areas multiple times daily to manage seasonal mess.
• Laundry Operations: Manage the full daily laundry cycle (washing, drying, folding, and distributing linens) for all classrooms.
• Waste Management: Monitor and remove garbage from the facility multiple times daily.
• Daily Sanitization: Execute a rotating deep-clean schedule for classroom toys, manipulatives, and equipment.
• Operational Support: Act as an adaptable support resource for the facility, including organizing inventory, moving furniture, setting up for activities, and cleaning high-touch glass surfaces.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Culinary Experience: Proven experience working as a Cook, with sound knowledge of cooking methods, techniques, and the ability to follow recipes under pressure.
• Certifications: Food Safety/Handling/Hygiene Training and First Aid with CPR-C.
• Physical Stamina: This is a highly active job. You must have good physical strength, the ability to carry heavy objects/boxes, and be comfortable standing or being on your feet for the majority of the shift.
• Adaptability & Reliability: You are punctual, a strong multitasker, and happy to pause a cleaning task to help the Director with a quick project or urgent need.
• Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, Valid Work Permit). Only local candidates will be considered.
• Background Checks: Must be able to pass a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Register Check.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
