Overview

We are seeking a dependable, experienced Senior Sous Chef to assist our Executive Chef and oversee all aspects of food service operations within our successful, high-volume downtown restaurant. At least 5 years of culinary experience as well as FoodSafe Level 1 is required for this position. This pivotal, 50 hr per week, role combines expert culinary skills with strong leadership capabilities to ensure exceptional food quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. Preferably, the successful applicant will have their Red Seal Cook certification and will have experience working in a high-volume commercial kitchen.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operations of the kitchen and food service team, ensuring smooth workflow and high standards of quality.
  • Supervise food preparation and cooking processes to maintain consistency, presentation, and adherence to recipes.
  • Manage team members effectively by providing coaching, training, and performance feedback to foster a motivated and skilled workforce.
  • Oversee food safety protocols, proper food handling practices, and compliance with health regulations to guarantee a safe dining environment.
  • Coordinate restaurant management tasks including inventory control, ordering supplies, and maintaining cleanliness standards.
  • Support the onboarding of new staff members and facilitate ongoing training in food industry best practices.

Skills

  • The ability to provide strong, consistent leadership in a high-volume commercial kitchen.
  • Proven supervisory experience within a restaurant or hospitality setting with strong team management skills.
  • Extensive food preparation and cooking expertise with a thorough understanding of kitchen operations.
  • Deep knowledge of food handling procedures, safety standards, and sanitation regulations.
  • Excellent leadership qualities with the ability to motivate staff and foster a positive work environment.
  • Strong understanding of food industry trends, customer service excellence, and hospitality principles.
  • Effective communication skills to serve as a leader among team members and interact confidently with guests.
