Department: Hazardous Waste / Environmental Services

Position Overview

GFL Environmental is looking for a detail-oriented, safety-driven Lab Pack Representative to serve as the front-line technical representative for our environmental services division. In this role, you will identify, pack, label, and safely transport hazardous and non-hazardous chemical waste from customer sites. Combining technical chemical expertise with client-facing service, you will ensure full regulatory compliance while delivering an outstanding customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Representation & Site Operations: Serve as the primary on-site technical contact, providing professional, courteous service while handling chemical waste streams.

  • Lab Packing & Identification: Classify, segregate, package, and label various laboratory chemicals and hazardous wastes according to municipal, provincial, and federal regulations.

  • Chemical Compatibility & Safety: Evaluate chemical compatibility on-site to safely consolidate waste, prevent hazardous reactions, and ensure proper transport.

  • Transportation & Logistics: Drive company vehicles (including DZ-class trucks) to pick up waste from client locations and transport it back to GFL processing facilities.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Complete accurate waste manifests, shipping documents, lab pack inventories, and chain-of-custody paperwork.

  • Equipment Maintenance & Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to GFL safety protocols, conduct pre-/post-trip vehicle inspections, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection when necessary.

Qualifications, Experience & Requirements

  • Education & Experience: Post-secondary education in Chemistry or Chemical Technology. Relevant work experience and/or an internship in a related environmental field will be considered.

  • Licensing: A valid DZ Driver’s License is preferred; candidates willing and eligible to obtain a DZ license will also be considered.

  • Chemical Expertise: Solid understanding of potential chemical reactions (compatibility) and standard methods for performing safe chemical disposal reactions.

  • Technical & Computer Skills: Competent computer skills, including proficiency in Google Sheets and Google Docs.

  • Safety & Detail Orientation: Extremely safety-conscious, highly detail-oriented, and capable of safely wearing a respirator as required by job tasks.

  • Professional & Interpersonal Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive customer relationships.

  • Work Style: Self-motivated, able to multitask, work with minimum supervision, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work overtime, alternate shifts, and occasional weekends as operational needs dictate.
