Design Support Specialist – Calgary, AB

Our client, HeatLink, has a manufacturing facility in Calgary, producing plastic tubing for residential, commercial and industrial applications.

We are looking for a Design Support Specialist to join the team!

Position Overview

As a Design Support Specialist, you will work closely with the Technical Design Support Supervisor to provide technical design and estimating support for a variety of hydronic systems, including radiant floor heating, radiant cooling, snow melting, plumbing systems, and control and pumping panels. This role is responsible for preparing accurate quotes, assisting with system designs, and providing knowledgeable technical support to customers, helping ensure exceptional service and successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop and follow-up on technical design related to residential and commercial hydronic in-slab heating/cooling systems, snow melt systems, and pumping panel applications. The work process includes but is not limited to building heat loss and hydronic calculations, equipment / control selection, quotation summaries, generating 2D piping layouts, and hydronics schedule and reports.
  • Plan, develop detailed SOLIDWORKS drawingfor pre-fabrication in the piping and sheet metal shops. Prepare flat pattern layouts and CNC export files for sheet metal fabrication.
  • Plan, develop and follow-up on technical design related to residential and commercial plumbing systems. The work process includes but is not limited to domestic waterline sizing, quotation summaries, generating 3D piping layouts, and potable water systems schedule.
  • Responding to customer’s technical questions and inquiries. Populate and expand knowledge database for troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Aid existing technical support network, including but not limited to design, literature, technical articles, and training programs.
  • Works with Product Manager to maintain existing offering through continual product improvements, product line extensions and product maintenance.

Education, Experience and Qualifications: (Formal education, experience and knowledge to fully satisfy the needs of the position):

  • Technical training as a CET, EIT, P. Eng., plumber, or hydronic installer would be an asset.
  • Technical designation as a CHC Certified Hydronics Designer, RHDT, CPDT, or CPD would be an asset.
  • Technical knowledge or prior experience with LoopCAD, SOLIDWORKS, PlumbingCAD, AutoCAD, REVIT, other heat loss and hydronic calculations software, plumbing estimating and design software and / or plumbing code knowledge.
  • Excellent understanding of product applications and installations.
  • Understanding of the residential fire sprinkler and fire safety markets is an advantage.
