About the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Humber:

About the MLS Lab Facilitator Role:
-
Preparation for laboratory classes and perform general lab clean up and, when applicable, assist with the analysis of student lab samples.

Responsibilities include:
-
Supporting instructor with use of laboratory equipment and/or experiment procedures, protocols, and practices.
-
Performing calibrations, general repairs, maintenance and troubleshooting for all lab equipment.
-
Maintaining necessary certifications pertaining to the laboratory and the equipment, tools, and reagents within.
-
Ensuring safe storage and handling of cleaning chemicals, calibration gasses and biohazardous waste is essential. Maintaining a system of collecting and disposing of all biohazard waste is required.
-
Maintaining, updating, and communicating with necessary faculty, staff, and administration on the standard operating procedures for all laboratory equipment, tools, resources, and reagents.

Additional duties include sourcing, ordering, receiving, and storage of consumables and equipment, along with maintaining an inventory of supplies in collaborating with Program Coordinator(s), Program Support Officer(s) and Associate Dean as needed/appropriate.

The incumbent contributes and supports ongoing development of laboratory exercises, experiments, procedures, and manuals. -
The incumbent will provide guidance and direction to the work study students and laboratory support staff and will follow up with work study students and/or laboratory support staff to confirm work progress.

The incumbent will collaborate with the Program Coordinator(s)/Manage, Faculty and Associate Dean (where and when applicable) to recommend and integrate innovative tools. experiments, technologies and/or software for use and experimentation within the lab.

The incumbent will support faculty with research and experimental protocols.

Education

BSc. within field of Sciences, Biology or equivalent in addition to an advanced diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.

Current registration as a MLT with CMLTO is required.
Experience/Skills

Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience working in a MLS laboratory and industry experience is a bonus.
