Full job description

About The Rise

Perched above Okanagan Lake in Vernon, The Rise Resort is a premier golf and hospitality destination known for spectacular views, exceptional dining, and events people talk about long after they've gone home. From weddings and golf tournaments to corporate retreats and community celebrations, our Events Department is a growing part of everything we do — and we're ready to take it further.

The Role

We're looking for an entrepreneurial leader to take our Events Department into its next chapter. The foundation is in place — now we need someone to grow it. Reporting to the President, the Director of Business Development & Events owns the growth of our events business: driving new bookings, setting pricing strategy, building the relationships that fill our calendar, and expanding into new markets beyond the Okanagan, including destination clients from Toronto and other major centres.

This is a growth role. You'll set the strategy, land the business, sharpen pricing and packages, and lead the team that delivers. A Manager of Events & Marketing reports to you and runs the day-to-day operations of events and social events, so your focus stays on revenue growth, client relationships, and departmental leadership.

What You'll Do

Business Development & Client Acquisition

  • Actively prospect and secure new business across the wedding, corporate, and social markets
  • Open new markets for The Rise — including destination weddings and corporate retreats from Toronto and other major Canadian centres
  • Build lasting client relationships that turn into repeat business and referrals
  • Represent The Rise at bridal shows, networking functions, and community events
  • Partner with local organizations, vendors, and tourism associations to deepen our community presence
  • Own revenue and booking targets, and report weekly to the President on leads, bookings, and performance

Marketing & Positioning

  • Develop marketing strategies that position The Rise as a top-tier Okanagan wedding and event destination
  • Create and maintain event packages, promotional materials, and marketing content
  • Guide campaigns, advertising, and social media initiatives, working through your Manager of Events & Marketing and the resort's marketing team
  • Use booking data and campaign results to sharpen what's working and cut what isn't

Department Leadership

  • Lead the Events Department: assist the Events Manager with hiring and disciplinary actions, and oversee scheduling to ensure effective staffing and budget management
  • Supervise and mentor the Manager of Events & Marketing and the banquet team, holding the standard for the highest quality and hospitality at every event
  • Refine and strengthen operational standards, policies, and procedures for the department
  • Recommend and negotiate pricing, packages, and vendor contracts within approved guidelines
  • Manage departmental expenses and deliver profitability within approved budgets
  • Foster a positive, high-morale team environment in a busy, fast-moving operation

Event Strategy & Oversight

  • Set the vision for weddings, corporate functions, golf tournaments, and social gatherings, and ensure flawless delivery through your team
  • Collaborate with clients to understand and realize their vision
  • Coordinate across culinary, bar, golf, and operations teams, plus external vendors
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and profit projections for events
  • Work with the Food & Beverage team on menu and pricing updates each year
  • Lead post-event debriefs to capture lessons and keep raising the bar

What You Bring

  • Proven success in business development, sales, or event management within hospitality, resorts, or a related industry
  • Management experience, including having direct reports and managing a team
  • Marketing experience, including campaign development, brand positioning, and digital and social media marketing
  • Working knowledge of marketing and sales tools — CRM systems, email marketing platforms, social media management, and basic analytics
  • Strong copywriting and content skills for packages, promotions, and client communications
  • Leadership experience — you've hired, trained, and developed a team, and know how to get the best from people
  • Sharp financial instincts: comfortable with budgets, pricing strategy, forecasting, and P&L accountability
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • An entrepreneurial mindset — you see opportunities, move on them, and follow through
  • Grace under pressure and a genuine love of delivering great guest experiences

Schedule

Full-time, averaging 40+ hours per week. Events happen when they happen — evenings, weekends, and holidays are part of the job, with flexibility for on-call availability and extended hours during peak season.

How to Apply

Send your resume and a short note about how you’d grow the events business at The Rise to trenton@theriseresort.ca. We look forward to hearing from you.
