Qualifications
MINIMAL FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Masters degree in a related study area with two years = directly-related experience.
- Bachelors degree in a related discipline with five years = directly-related experience.
- Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with six years = directly-related experience.
- Successful experience in completing scientific project(s): conception, literature review, ethics application, reporting and presenting results, and publication (ideally peer-review).
- Strong abilities and experience in scientific writing.
- Experience with scientific reference software (e.g. EndNote or other software.)
- Experience with developing outputs used for scientific communication: tables, graphs, charts, posters, diagrams, etc.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Willingness to learn about dementia and geriatric care (training in this area will be provided as part of the job) is required.
- Ability and willingness to learn about new techniques, especially statistical techniques; in consultation with other statisticians is required.
- Educational material will be provided on the job when relevant is required.
- Able to work independently and as a member of a team is required.
- Ability to work within time and budget constraints is required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilities
- Preparation of grant applications
- Preparation of scientific manuscripts, including formatting for peer-review
- Ethics application through RITHIM
- Preparation of scientific outputs (e.g. preliminary graphs or tables)
- Refining tables, graphs, charts, diagrams, and other relevant findings for scientific publication
- Editing and possibly contributing to manuscripts (can become a co-author when applicable) - - - - - -
- Helps coordinate work from research collaborators, co-authors, students and other trainees
- Graphical and analytical work involving:
- Help prepare outputs from statistical analyses. This includes drafts of tables, graphs, images relevant research findings.
- Only when applicable, potential involvement in the data cleaning and analysis in collaboration with other analysts and statisticians.
- Facilitates in literature searches and organizing bibliographies in topics related to geriatrics and dementia.
- Updating CVs.
- Knowledge and experience in the area of geriatric and dementia research is an essential and key asset.
- Continue to acquire knowledge in geriatrics and dementia through local events to help facilitate research responsibilities (e.g. periodic attendance in geriatric section rounds when topic is relevant to research portfolio, or if relevant, Centre on Aging Spring Symposium).
- Prepares manuscripts, tables, presentations, graphs, charts, diagrams, and other relevant graphics for research publication, teaching, and/or educational materials.
- Prepares and edits posters for scientific presentation
- Prepares and refines graphics for scientific presentation and teaching
- Day-to-day operations of the conduction of scientific research projects (details below)
- When relevant, aids in the assistance of other students and trainees with their projects
- Helps with tracking grant deadlines and finances
- Experience in geriatric and dementia research is essential to the job.
- May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
