Position Description
Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Neuroimaging
A postdoctoral research fellow position at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is available with start in spring 2025 the Knight Lab. The position is initially available for a 1-year period with the possibility of extension, depending on performance and further funding. This project examines brain structure, function and development in children and adolescents with lupus (and comparator cohorts) utilizing structural (MRI & DTI) and functional (fMRI) neuroimaging metrics. Longitudinal MRI, cognitive, behavioural and clinical data already exists for this project, and the post-doctoral fellow will perform neuroimaging analyses and scientific writing in collaboration with the study team.
Your profile
We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to work in close collaboration with the PI, project coordinators, neuropsychologists, neuroradiologists, physicians, other trainees, external collaborators and stakeholders in analyzing MRI data together with clinical and behavioural data.
Neuroimaging experience is necessary, and a background knowledge of neurological and psychiatric disease would be advantageous.
As a postdoctoral fellow in this position, you will be expected to:
- Hold a PhD in a relevant area (physics, engineering, computer sciences, cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging);
- Have experience with MRI/DTI/fMRI analyses including pre- and post-processing steps;
- Hold a track record in research commensurate with your level of experience post-PhD;
- Perform programming (e.g., Matlab, Python, or R) utilizing pipelines and post-processing software for cross-sectional and longitudinal MRI data analyses;
- Create graphics of neuroimaging results;
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills (oral and written) and be able to interact productively with multi-disciplinary study team members and other trainees;
- Write high-quality scientific abstracts and manuscripts;
- Be able to work independently and meet deadlines (e.g. abstract/manuscript submissions, grant submissions, progress reports).
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.
Your work environment
The principal investigator on this project is Dr. Andrea Knight, who leads a multi-disciplinary research team focused on brain health in youth with lupus and other rheumatologic conditions.
The candidate will be based in the Neurosciences & Mental Health Program, the Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute. You will work closely with affiliated staff and students who use neuroimaging to study typical and atypical populations.
We offer:
Salary Scale: minimum of $54,000 gross annual that scales upwards depending on qualifications and experience post-PhD. In addition, we offer an attractive groups benefits package, that includes coverage for dental, drug and medical.
The employment will be for a period of 1-year, with a possibility of extension depending on performance and funding.
Toronto is a world-class city, rated in the top ten cities worldwide for its livability. It has a rich & vibrant neuroscience community.
The institute offers many opportunities for career development and additional extracurricular training as part of the Research Training Centre.
Additional information
The post is available from posting and will remain open until the position is filled. Contact Dr. Andrea Knight via amber.marsman@sickkids.ca for more information.
