Assistant Professor - Pharmaceutical Sciences
As part of a major expansion of its research and academic programs in pharmaceutical sciences, the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences , with a focus on pharmaceutical sciences.
The University of Ottawa is recognized nationally and internationally as a leading university and the largest bilingual university (French and English) in the world. Located on the unceded territory of the Anishinaabe-Algonquin people, in the heart of downtown Ottawa, it contributes significantly to the economy, culture and quality of life of Canada’s capital.
We are seeking candidates with expertise in teaching and a strong research program in pharmacology, broadly defined. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative program in basic, clinical, or translational pharmacology. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: molecular and cellular pharmacology, pharmacogenomics, clinical pharmacology, neuropharmacology, pharmacomicrobiomics (interactions between the microbiome and drugs), toxicology, drug metabolism, translational pharmacology, as well as interactions between pharmacology and environmental health determinants (e.g., exposomics, impacts of environmental exposures on drug response, planetary health).
The successful candidate will:
-
Contribute to the development and delivery of the new French-language Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program, and participate in the teaching of graduate programs offered in English or bilingually;
-
Establish and maintain an externally funded, innovative, and independent research program;
-
Supervise and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees;
-
Collaborate within the Faculty of Medicine and across disciplines in a vibrant, research-intensive environment.
The selected candidate will have access to extensive research infrastructure and shared core facilities within the Faculty of Medicine, as well as collaborative opportunities with nearby hospital-based research institutes.
Title of the position: Assistant Professor. The higher ranks will be considered according to budgetary approval.

Wage : Salary scale for an assistant professor starts at $99,377 (as of May 1, 2025).

Skills requirements:

Education: PhD, MD/PhD, PharmD/PhD, BScPharm/PhD, or equivalent degrees in a relevant field.

Postdoctoral experience or equivalent, with a strong track record of research excellence.

A demonstrated commitment to teaching and graduate training.

A solid record of and commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.

Ability to teach in French.

Excellent communication skills in both English and French. Active knowledge of one’s second official language (French or English) is a requirement for tenure. English-French bilingualism is an asset.
