Full job description

Looking to start your environmental career, or gain relevant field and office experience? Come join our great team of Environmental Professionals and live on beautiful Vancouver Island! This entry to intermediate level position requires the successful applicant to be based out of Campbell River, BC and will require short term travel to other areas of Vancouver Island and the adjacent mainland coast.

Potential work activities will include assessments and monitoring in freshwater, marine and terrestrial environments. Candidates may be responsible for completing the following tasks, in addition to other work as needed, either independently or under the direct supervision of our Senior Technologists and Biologists:

  • Conducting biological and environmental assessments
  • Managing field data and preparing technical reports
  • Acting as an on-site environmental monitor at construction sites and instream projects

We encourage individuals who are passionate about their environmental career and enjoy a combination of physical outdoor work and office based tasks to apply.

Starting wage will be based on the level of experience and training/education of the applicant.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be physically fit, able to work independently or as part of a team, be available for work at night and / or on weekends and be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Camp work may be required.

The ability to be flexible with scheduling at short notice is an asset.

Desired qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (biology, ecology, resource management or environmental science), or comparable education and experience.
  • Professional designation (ABT, RBTech, RPBio), or ability to obtain certification within 1 - 2 years of hire.
  • Valid electroshocking certification
  • Valid swiftwater rescue technician training (minimum Level 1)
  • First aid with CPR component
  • Boat operator certification (PCOC or SVOP) and experience
  • Experience with erosion and sediment control techniques, water quality monitoring
  • Experience with data management and report preparation
  • Exceptional organization, communication, and time management skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel.
  • Basic GPS and GIS knowledge, including field data collection and data processing using QGIS or similar software.
  • Ability to adapt to unexpected project and schedule changes and support other staff members as needed.
