Job Summary

Tez Healthcare Services is seeking qualified mental health professionals to support a proposed province-wide virtual group recovery program for individuals experiencing gambling-related harm.The program will provide structured, short-term virtual group sessions focused on education, counselling, coping strategies, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and connection to appropriate community supports.

This opportunity is contingent upon Tez Healthcare Services being awarded the applicable provincial contract. Selected candidates may be asked to provide documentation of their qualifications and participate in program planning prior to service commencement.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate may be responsible for:

  • Facilitating structured virtual group counselling and psychoeducational sessions.
  • Supporting individuals experiencing gambling-related harm, including individuals affected by another person’s gambling.
  • Using evidence-informed approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy.
  • Supporting participants in understanding gambling behaviour, urges, triggers, cognitive distortions, and stages of change.
  • Teaching practical coping, harm-reduction, financial-safety, relapse-prevention, and recovery-planning strategies.
  • Promoting psychological safety, group cohesion, respectful participation, and confidentiality.
  • Completing brief participant screening and determining suitability for group participation.
  • Monitoring participant engagement, progress, distress, and emerging support needs.
  • Recognizing when a participant requires individual counselling, crisis support, medical care, substance-use services, or another community resource.
  • Providing brief de-escalation and appropriate referrals when concerns fall outside the scope of the group program.
  • Completing timely clinical documentation, attendance records, outcome measures, and program-related reporting.
  • Participating in clinical supervision, case consultation, quality assurance, and facilitator training.
  • Delivering services in a trauma-informed, culturally safe, inclusive, strengths-based, and anti-oppressive manner.
  • Maintaining professional boundaries and complying with privacy, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Master’s degree in counselling, psychology, social work, psychotherapy, or a closely related mental health discipline.
  • Current registration, certification, or membership in good standing with at least one of the following:
  • BC Association of Clinical Counsellors;
  • Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association;
  • College of Psychologists of British Columbia; or
  • BC College of Social Workers as a Registered Clinical Social Worker.
  • Relevant experience providing mental health, addictions, behavioural addiction, or recovery-focused services.
  • Experience facilitating counselling, psychoeducational, support, or recovery groups.
  • Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally safe practice.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to participant distress and safety concerns.
  • Knowledge of professional ethics, informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, and virtual-care standards.
  • Strong verbal communication, group facilitation, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently within a structured clinical program.
  • Access to a secure and confidential workspace suitable for virtual service delivery.
  • Professional liability insurance.
  • Eligibility to provide professional services within British Columbia.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Gambling disorder or gambling-related harm.
  • Behavioural addictions or substance-use treatment.
  • Motivational Interviewing.
  • Relapse prevention.
  • Urge management and cognitive restructuring.
  • Harm-reduction programming.
  • Group curriculum development.
  • Virtual group facilitation.
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Financial stress, relationship strain, shame, stigma, or family impacts associated with gambling.
  • Knowledge of mental health, addictions, crisis, and community-support services available throughout British Columbia.
  • Clinical supervision or leadership experience.
  • Delivery of outcome-focused, short-term, or resolution-focused counselling programs.
