LEAD INVESTIGATOR
Corporate Security Services
Victoria
The Opportunity
Join our Corporate Security team as a Lead Investigator and take on a pivotal role in advancing our commitment to safety, service excellence, and the protection of people, property, and reputation. In this highly trusted position, you will lead complex, high risk investigations into physical security incidents, theft, fraud, misconduct, and other unlawful or unethical activities that could impact our company’s operations or public trust.
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Security, you will bring strategic insight, sound judgment, and professional discretion to ensure investigations are thorough, ethical, and fully compliant with legal and regulatory frameworks. You will play a critical role in safeguarding the integrity, safety, and security of our customers, employees, infrastructure, and assets through evidence based investigative practices and proactive risk mitigation.
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned investigative professional who thrives in a fast paced, high responsibility environment - someone who brings a strong sense of accountability, exceptional analytical skill, and a deep commitment to organizational integrity. You contribute innovative ideas and practical solutions to strengthen security, reduce costs, and improve efficiency. You will be expected to be on site for events and business demands. As this role involves travel, a valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are required.
The Role
As the Lead Investigator, you’ll play a key role in protecting the organization’s people, property, and reputation. You will lead complex and sensitive investigations into incidents such as theft, fraud, misconduct, and other security related matters. This includes gathering and analyzing evidence, conducting interviews, and preparing detailed reports that support disciplinary action, legal proceedings, or regulatory responses.
You’ll collaborate closely with law enforcement, legal counsel, and regulatory bodies to support investigation outcomes. Your work will help shape policies, improve internal controls, and reduce future risk.
In this role, you are responsible for:
- Preparing and delivering investigative findings and analysis to senior leadership, offering recommendations that support enterprise-wide safety, legal compliance, and policy development.
- Developing and maintaining investigation standards, procedures, and internal controls that align with legal, regulatory, and industry best practices while ensuring consistent investigative processes across the organization.
- Acting as a primary liaison with law enforcement, Crown counsel, ICBC, and regulatory authorities, coordinating evidence submission, legal inquiries, and collaborative investigations.
- Directing or supporting the execution of investigative plans, including field investigations, interviews, audits, and analysis, ensuring the chain of custody and evidence integrity is maintained throughout.
- Ensuring investigations involving staff or customers on company property are conducted with diligence and in accordance with company values, security policy, and legal expectations.
- Supporting the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) by contributing investigative insights to incident reviews, corrective actions, and safety related decision making.
- Conducting security audits and field inspections, including reviews of access control systems, to identify vulnerabilities and provide recommendations that enhance the organization’s security posture.
- Preparing legally sound investigative reports and comprehensive case files to support disciplinary actions, legal proceedings, regulatory responses, or insurance claims.
- Designing and delivering specialized security awareness training programs, workshops, and corporate prevention materials to strengthen internal capabilities and promote security awareness across the organization.
- Maintaining secure systems for evidence handling, record retention, and legal disclosure, ensuring documentation meets organizational and judicial standards.
- Providing subject matter expertise and investigative training to company and contracted employees, supervisors and managers, promoting consistent investigative standards across operations.
- Preparing internal presentations, position papers, and security reports to inform leadership decisions and shape corporate security strategy.
- Supporting physical security through site visits and event response; ensuring protective measures are in place and functioning effectively.
- Performing related duties and provides support for emergent issues and evolving organizational security needs, in keeping with the role’s purpose and accountability.
What you bring to the team
Your success in this role will be driven by your ability to lead with integrity, think critically, and act decisively in high-pressure situations. You are confident navigating complex investigations and bring professionalism, empathy, and discretion to every interaction.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, security management, or a related discipline. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- 4+ years of progressively responsible investigative experience, including managing complex case files and developing investigative strategies.
- 2+ years preparing documentation and evidence for hearings or legal proceedings, with experience providing testimony or representation.
- Strong understanding of applicable legislation including the Criminal Code of Canada, privacy laws, Canada Shipping Act, Transport Canada Domestic Ferries Security Regulations (DFSR) and occupational health and safety regulations.
- Experience engaging with law enforcement, legal counsel, and regulatory bodies to support successful investigation outcomes.
- Experience in a marine, transportation, or unionized environment is an asset.
- Certifications such as PI, PCI, PSP, CPP, or completion of formal investigative training (e.g., JIBC) are considered strong assets.
Competencies & Attributes:
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and documentation abilities.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment in handling sensitive matters.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and credibility with stakeholders across the organization and in times of conflict or crisis.
- Adaptable, self directed, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.
