We are seeking a part-time “Prep & Line Cook” to join our back-of-house culinary team. This role will work onsite at our location at 692 St. Anne’s Road. The position requires part-time availability to work a flexible schedule between Tuesday-Saturday. Expected shift times are 11:00AM–5:00PM, depending on business needs. Estimated total weekly hours are anticipated to be between 20–30 hours per week.

Key responsibilities include preparing and assembling bagels, sandwiches, and other menu items in a fast-paced environment. The position will fulfill the bagel or sandwich order from start to finish, including the preparation of ingredients, toasting, and cooking according to established recipes, adding lifts (cream cheeses, jams, and spreads), and maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen. Tasks will be repetitive, fast paced, and require standing for extended periods of time. The role will report to the Head Chef and work in a small kitchen, among a team of cooks, bakers, and baristas.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare a wide variety of artisan bagels, sandwiches, menu items, and supporting products in accordance with standardized recipes, production procedures, and The Forge’s quality standards.
• Consistently maintain high standards of taste, texture, temperature, portion control, freshness, and presentation across all products.
• Operate and maintain basic kitchen equipment, including toasters, mixers, rapid ovens, and other food preparation equipment, following proper operating and safety procedures.
• Accurately assemble, garnish, and finish bagels and sandwiches to The Forge’s presentation standards, ensuring consistency and attention to detail with every order.
• Prepare and maintain an organized workstation by ensuring all ingredients, equipment, utensils, and supplies are properly stocked and readily available throughout the shift.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures, including proper food handling, temperature control, storage, labelling, and rotation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment by regularly cleaning and sanitizing work surfaces, equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas.
• Assist with dishwashing, kitchen cleanup, waste management, and other general kitchen duties as required to support the overall operation.
• Package and prepare products with care, ensuring they are presented professionally while maintaining freshness, quality, and product integrity.
• Work efficiently as part of the culinary team, communicating clearly with coworkers and supporting a smooth and organized workflow during both regular service and high-volume periods.
• Take direction from the Head Chef, while demonstrating initiative, accountability, and a willingness to assist wherever needed.
• Contribute to a positive kitchen culture by demonstrating reliability, strong work ethic, teamwork, respect, and a friendly attitude in every interaction.
• Represent The Forge’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship, hospitality, and consistency in every product prepared and every task completed.

Qualifications

• High-School Graduate
• Available to work a flexible schedule between Tuesday-Saturday. Expected shift times will be between 11:00AM–5:00PM, depending on business needs.
• Junior experience as a prep cook, line cook, or in a related culinary role, particularly in a fast-paced setting.
• Proficient knife handling skills and the ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Meticulous focus on recipes, portion control, and food preparation.
• Multitasking and organizational skills to manage multiple orders simultaneously during peak hours.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and lift up to 35 lbs.
• Reliable and punctual for start times.
• A positive attitude, the ability to take direction and follow instructions, and work consistently and efficiently as part of a team.

Compensation

• Starting hourly wage is between $18.00-20.00 per hour. The Forge has a no tipping policy.
