Job Description:
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Team Lead:
- Participate in the orientation and training of new staff
- Monitor program expenditures
- Record and report activities, behaviours and any incidents which occur during the shift.
- Keep accurate documentation as to program vehicle usage and maintenance
- Ensure facility is kept in accordance with agency policies and procedures and the Department of Families’ requirements
- Manage member funds and ensure recording of purchases under the direction of the Director of Day Services.
- Assist the Director of Day Services in developing an agenda
- Familiarize and inform staff of agency policies and procedures; support, and implement and guide others in the application into daily tasks
- As required and applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to Director of Day Services
2. Safety
- Monitoring health and safety processes to ensure processes, standards, and guidelines are being followed so that members and staff live and work in a safe environment by ensuring compliance with all safety rules and regulations are being adhered to by all, including but not limited to, emergency evacuation procedures, vehicle usage, transportation of members, working alone, food, medications and equipment, storage and maintenance.
- Provide crisis intervention for members as required. Conduct checks to ensure the safety of the facility and members throughout their shifts
- Understand and promote members’ rights and responsibilities
• Provide transportation to and from various locations while demonstrating safe driving skills • Follow all traffic laws while driving defensively to ensure safety
- Report personnel and member concerns promptly to Director of Day Services
• Promote proper lifting, twisting, and reaching techniques during job performance • Use PPE provided when necessary
3. Health and Medical
- Ensure individual’s health and medical needs are accurately attended to in a timely fashion including personal care where needed, and that all medication is properly administered and recorded (where applicable)
• Recognize and report concerns of abuse or neglect • Provide emotional support for members as required
4. Person Centred Plans
- Be involved in implementing and monitoring individual plans
- Provide individuals with support in pre-planning by providing a mechanism to gather information on an individual's goals and desired outcomes; Communicate necessary information and maintain positive relationships with other agencies or programs
5. Individual Personal Development
- Encourage and assist each individual to participate in daily activities, in employment and in the community including reinforcing work and community expectations, personal hygiene, meal preparation, grocery shopping, laundry and the care of the facility and grounds.
- Ensure that the environment of the program is supportive, nurturing and encourages a high degree of member involvement including decision making
- Model appropriate behaviour and attitude supporting growth and promoting independence for the members.
6. Public Relations and Communication
- Contribute to ensuring the wise use of member and program resources
- Develop opportunities for family and community engagement and assist individuals to develop positive social interactions
- Ensures all contact with others is courteous and professional
- Treat all members and staff with respect and dignity at all times.
7. Administration & Finance:
- Complete program inventories annually as per agency policies (where applicable).
- Ensure completion and secure storage of records and documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures and the Department of Families’ requirements.
- Perform necessary housekeeping duties and report any maintenance issues as they arise.
8. Program Development
- Assist the Director in creating, managing, and facilitating appropriate activities, special events and spiritual care programs according to member interest, skill, and ability levels, providing support, input, and recommendations, as applicable
- Promote social interaction and personal development.
- Ensure all necessary components and any required documentation is completed for assigned activities.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports directly to the Director of Day Services
- Though formally only responsible for their own time and effort, this role serves as Team Lead for the Day Service Facilitators within the program by providing day-to-day direction, guidance, and workflow supervision, resolving conflict and employee issues, where necessary and assigned, under the guidance and direction of the Day Services Director
- This role participates in the orientation, training, for new staff and in consultation with the Director of Day Services, provides feedback, participates in issue investigation, and supports the building of an effective team
- Participate in staff meeting and training opportunities.
- As required and applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to Director of Day Services.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Contributes in ensuring wise use of member and program resources
- May be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash; monitors and reports team’s expenditures and vehicle usage/maintenance, and has materials management over records and documentation
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The incumbent’s typical work environment is a day program facility with minor to moderate amounts of office work and off-site meetings.
- The incumbent may be initially assigned to one location but may be transferred or redeployed to another location as needed, including adjustments to their designated start location.
• Significant amounts of work accompanying members into the community. • Working conditions may include dealing with verbal abuse, angry or abusive people.
- Overnight or out-of-town business travel is not typically expected.
- Moderate exposure to hazards: domestic cleaning supplies; handling of waste (garbage), bodily fluids/wastes, sharp objects, dirt/dust/odor, hot equipment (ovens, stoves, etc.).
- Minor to moderate exposure to hazards: physical attack from members, and traffic accidents when driving
- Minor exposure to hazards: infectious diseases, toxic chemicals, scabies, lice and/or bed bugs, emergency response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc.) and other potentially dangerous situations The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our Code of Conduct.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Community College diploma/degree in the health services, social services field, or equivalent experience in a community – based facility, preferably in some field of disabilities
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Suitable candidates should have at least two years’ experience in developmental services.
- Valid Manitoba Class V driver license and access to a personal vehicle
- Criminal record check
- Child Abuse Registry check
- Adult Abuse Registry check
Skills and Capabilities
- Moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping
- Occasional to moderate amounts of physical care (including manual or assisted transfers)
- Moderate lifting/packing of member belongings, program and/or residence supplies

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $21.04 to $26.30 with a maximum of $31.57.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
