Archaeologist Opportunities – Coastal BC

Company: Aquilla Archaeology Ltd.
Location: Nanaimo, BC
Salary: $30–$56/hour + Signing Bonus
Job Type: Full-time | Immediate Start

About the Roles

Aquilla Archaeology Ltd. is seeking Junior and Senior Archaeologists to join our growing team for projects across Coastal British Columbia. These roles are ideal for both emerging professionals and experienced archaeological professionals who are truly passionate about meaningful research, and focused archaeology that makes a difference.

Successful candidates will receive a signing bonus and have opportunities for year-round field and office work.

Junior Archaeologist

Responsibilities

  • Assist with archaeological surveys, impact assessments, and excavations
  • Record archaeological sites and traditional use areas
  • Support research, data analysis, and reporting
  • Catalogue and process cultural materials in lab settings
  • Work safely in varying terrain and weather conditions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology (or near completion), or Anthropology with an archaeology focus
  • Completion of an accredited archaeological field school, preferably on the NWC
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations
  • Physical fitness for fieldwork

Senior Archaeologist

Responsibilities

  • Lead archaeological fieldwork, assessments, and project execution
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff
  • Coordinate logistics and field operations
  • Prepare reports, site forms, and professional documentation
  • Collaborate with GIS specialists and senior team members
  • Ensure compliance with provincial regulatory standards

Qualifications

  • Approved Field Director (Northwest Coast) – BC Archaeology Branch (or nearing approval)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
  • Extensive experience in BC archaeology
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communications
  • Ability to work in diverse terrain and travel as required
