In 2020 North Toronto Eye Care (NTEC) merged with Prism Eye Institute, to form Prism Group Holdings (Prism), the largest Ophthalmology practice in Canada.

In 2022, PEI further strengthened a partnership with Vision Group Canada (VGC) and is working to expand its footprint nationally. VGC operates over 50 clinics and 70 surgical facilities performing over 100,000 procedures annually.

Tasks:

• Greet patients professionally and empathetically, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
• Respond to inquiries via phone, email, fax, and secure messaging systems (e.g., OSCAR).
• Coordinate receipt, distribution, and transmission of reports to referring offices.
• Monitor waiting areas for cleanliness and ensure supplies and equipment are well maintained.
• Educate patients on cataract, refractive, and retinal surgical options, including risks, benefits, alternatives, and expected outcomes.
• Review diagnostic results (biometry, OCT, corneal topography) and discuss intraocular lens (IOL) options, including premium and toric lenses.
• Provide clear instructions for pre-operative preparation and post-operative care.
• Counsel patients with empathy, addressing concerns and ensuring realistic expectations.
• Support patients emotionally and clinically throughout their surgical journey.
• Schedule, confirm, and manage surgical and diagnostic appointments using EMR and hospital systems (Oscar/Novari/EPIC).
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and facilities to ensure smooth surgical days.
• Verify OHIP eligibility, obtain prior authorizations, and assist with insurance claim forms.
• Communicate with referring optometrists, family physicians, and pharmacies regarding patient care.
• Manage urgent requests and triage cases appropriately.
• Administer patient registration, consents, intake forms, and medical/ophthalmic histories.
• Maintain accurate medical records in EMR, ensuring timely updates.
• Prepare and maintain surgical charts, consents, invoices, and letters/forms for patients and insurance.
• Track and report on surgeon waitlists, surgical volumes, and cancellations.
• Draft agendas, record minutes, and manage document tracking.
• Order and manage surgical supplies, intraocular lenses, specialty devices, and medications.
• Support the Research Department by scheduling surgical patients as required.
• Supervise and train staff on administrative and software procedures when needed.
• Operate diagnostic equipment such as the biometry machine, perform IOL calculations, and review results with patients.
• Assemble case files for surgeons and ensure all test results are complete prior to surgery.
• Assist in the pre-operative area with patient preparation and coordination.
• Provide patient education on medication use, surgical instructions, and post-operative care.

Pay: $19.00-$23.00 per hour
