Full-Time Line Cook – Smitty’s Restaurant & Lounge, Leduc

Location: Smitty’s Restaurant & Lounge – Leduc, Alberta
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Starting Wage: $18.50 per hour
Hours: Minimum 36 hours per week
Schedule: Days, evenings and weekends
Prerequisite: Valid Food Handler Certification required

Work Authorization: Applicants must already be legally entitled to work in Canada. Smitty’s Leduc will not be providing or supporting an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) for this position.

About the Position

Smitty’s Restaurant & Lounge in Leduc is looking for a dependable and experienced Full-Time Line Cook to join our kitchen team.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in the food they prepare, works well in a busy kitchen, and understands that consistency, cleanliness, teamwork and food safety are all important parts of delivering a great guest experience.

Our Line Cooks are responsible for accurately and efficiently preparing and cooking menu items, along with food preparation, portioning, plating and garnishing according to Smitty’s standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Prepare menu items according to Smitty’s recipes, specifications, portion sizes and presentation standards.
  • Work and train on multiple kitchen stations, including egg grill, pancake grill, fryer/sauté, meat grill, broiler and sandwich stations.
  • Maintain consistent food quality, proper cooking times and accurate portion sizes.
  • Keep your station properly stocked and prepared for busy service periods.
  • Follow FIFO, proper food storage, temperature controls and safe food-handling practices.
  • Prepare and portion food products as required before cooking.
  • Follow proper plating and garnish standards.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation and practice “clean as you go.”
  • Properly handle, store and rotate food products.
  • Assist with food preparation during slower periods.
  • Complete opening, closing and kitchen cleaning responsibilities.
  • Assist with dishwashing and cleaning of pots, pans, tableware and kitchen equipment when required.
  • Communicate effectively with the Kitchen Manager and other members of the restaurant team.
  • Help other kitchen stations and teammates when needed to keep service running smoothly.

These responsibilities reflect our Line Cook job description, including responsibility for product quality, standard recipes, portion control, stocking, sanitation, food preparation, product rotation and kitchen closing procedures.

What We’re Looking For

  • Valid Food Handler Certification – required
  • Previous experience working as a Line Cook or in a similar commercial kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Strong attention to food quality, presentation and cleanliness.
  • Good understanding of food safety and proper food-handling practices.
  • Ability to follow recipes, portion standards and established procedures.
  • Willingness to learn and work multiple kitchen stations.
  • Ability to take direction and work effectively as part of a team.

Our current Line Cook job description calls for previous kitchen preparation and cooking experience and experience in a similar capacity.

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to:

  • Reach, bend and stoop as required throughout a shift.
  • Frequently lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Work on their feet for extended periods, potentially up to 9 hours.

Schedule & Availability

This is a full-time, permanent position with a minimum of 36 hours per week.

Applicants must have flexible availability to work days, evenings and weekends. Scheduled shifts will vary based on the needs and business levels of the restaurant.

Compensation

Starting wage: $18.50 per hour
