Counsellor (Full-Time, Permanent)

Red Road Recovery – North (Terrace)

Red Road Recovery – is a land-based, holistic recovery centre. Our program supports individuals experiencing substance use and concurrent mental health challenges through an integrated approach that honours the mind, body, and spirit.

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Counsellor who is committed to walking alongside individuals on their healing journey in a respectful, culturally safe, and empowering way.

Position Summary

The Counsellor provides individual and group therapeutic services within a supportive recovery environment. This role focuses on fostering safety, trust, and connection while supporting residents in developing insight, stability, and sustainable recovery practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed individual and group counselling, ensuring a safe, respectful, and confidential therapeutic environment
  • Collaborate with residents to develop and implement individualized, strengths-based treatment plans, including goal setting and progress review
  • Support residents in building coping skills, emotional regulation, and relapse prevention strategies
  • Deliver psychoeducation on substance use, mental health, and recovery processes
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation and progress notes in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
  • Observe and respond to resident needs with empathy, professionalism, and appropriate intervention
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including clinical, medical, and support staff
  • Participate in case consultations, team meetings, and ongoing professional development
  • Contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all residents and staff

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or a combination of work/life experience or a related human services field

(Master’s level education is considered a strong asset)

  • Active registration in good standing with a recognized professional body in British Columbia, such as:
  • BCACC (BC Association of Clinical Counsellors)
  • CCPA (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association)
  • CPCA (Canadian Professional Counsellors Association)
  • ACCT (Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada)
  • Or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in substance use treatment, mental health, or supportive recovery environments
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of:
  • Trauma-informed practice
  • Substance use and concurrent disorders
  • Group facilitation and therapeutic engagement
  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of a minimum of 20 hours of relevant training in areas such as:
  • Trauma-Informed Practice
  • Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution
  • Psychosocial Interventions for Substance Use Disorders
  • Counselling Skills and Therapeutic Approaches
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Valid Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (site is approximately 15 minutes from Lumby)
