Accountant / Bookkeeper

At Salivan Landscape, we celebrated our 100th birthday in 2023. Despite global wars, stock market crashes, recessions, tech busts and Crypto meltdowns, Salivan continues to thrive and grow. Salivan is a full-service grounds management company offering landscape maintenance, landscape construction, interior plant care and snow removal services to commercial, municipal and multi-tenant residential clients across the Greater Toronto Area.

We specialize in complex construction jobs and grounds management that increase the value of properties by using our expertise to develop and manage the implementation of design plans.

Salivan is currently hiring a Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our team in Toronto (Scarborough). This is a full-time, work at the office position with benefits. The benefits include:

The key outcomes that this role is responsible for achieving are:

1. Accurate and timely completion of financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

2. Team members who are paid their correct weekly wages and salaries.

3. The timely collection of account receivables and payment of payables.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Daily posting of entries into the accounting system.
  • Prepare weekly payroll.
  • Prepare month-end financial statements by the 15th day of the following month.
  • Prepare year-end closing process including preparing accrual journal entries and GL account reconciliations.
  • Have full cycle accounting experience including AP, AR, Bank/Credit Card/Prepaids.
  • Prepare and file all CRA returns such as HST, payroll taxes, EHT, corporate taxes.
  • In conjunction with the Account Receivables clerk, call select clients on a weekly basis to collect overdue receivables.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
  • An accounting designation would be an asset but not mandatory.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a full-cycle Accountant or Bookkeeper.
  • Experience working in the construction, landscaping or other project-based industries.
  • Experience in all accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, month-end and year-end close and preparation of all financial statements.
  • Comfortable with calling clients to collect overdue receivables.
  • Strong knowledge of the Sage 50 accounting software.
  • Proficient with Excel, Office.

The position works normal business hours Monday through Friday at our office on 75 Nashdene Road in Scarborough. This is not a work-from-home role. Private, free parking is available.
