WE'RE HIRING
Operations Director
Victoria, BC | Full-Time (37.5 hours/week)
Salary: $95,000–$110,000 annually plus comprehensive benefits.
Help Create the Conditions Where People and Programs Thrive.
At VYES, we believe exceptional services begin with exceptional people.
We're looking for someone who enjoys helping people succeed, strengthening organizations, and creating environments where great work can happen.
If you're someone who sees opportunities where others see obstacles, enjoys improving systems, and wants to help build an organization where people feel supported and valued, we'd love to hear from you.
Victoria Youth Empowerment Society (VYES) is seeking a strategic and collaborative Operations Director to provide senior leadership for the organization's operations, people, and systems. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role drives operational excellence, supports managers, and the day-to-day operations of the organization while creating the conditions that allow competent people to do exceptional work for youth and families.
WHO WE ARE
For more than 30 years, the Victoria Youth Empowerment Society (VYES) has walked alongside youth and families throughout Greater Victoria, providing responsive, individualized support that builds safety, stability, connection, and independence.
Through emergency shelter, outreach, family support, supported independent living, wellness programming, and prevention services, we support more than 1,000 youth and families each year.
Our work is guided by our values of Integrity, Collaboration, Equity & Inclusion, Resourcefulness, Respect, and Safety.
Our vision is simple:
Every young person has the skills and support to shape their future and move confidently into adulthood.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This role is about much more than overseeing operations.
It's about creating an organization where people can do their best work.
Working closely with the Executive Director, you'll support our managers, strengthen organizational systems, improve processes, champion collaboration, and help ensure our operations reflect the values that guide our work with youth and families.
We're looking for someone who enjoys asking:
- How can we make this easier?
- How can we better support our staff?
- What barriers are getting in the way?
- What are we doing really well that deserves to be celebrated?
- How can we continue to improve?
If those questions energize you, this role might be a great fit.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL HELP CREATE THE CONDITIONS THAT ALLOW OUR STAFF, PROGRAMS, AND ORGANIZATION TO THRIVE BY:
- Supporting, coaching, and mentoring an experienced team of program managers, helping them grow as confident, capable leaders.
- Fostering collaboration, communication, and shared learning across programs and teams, creating opportunities for staff to learn from and support one another.
- Championing a culture of continuous improvement, curiosity, accountability, and innovation throughout the organization.
- Recognizing and celebrating the outstanding work happening across VYES, helping staff connect their daily work to our broader mission, values, and impact.
- Strengthening organizational systems, processes, and operational practices that enable high-quality service delivery and organizational effectiveness.
- Identifying and removing barriers that allow staff to focus on delivering exceptional services to youth and families.
- Overseeing facilities, accreditation, health and safety, risk management, and operational compliance, ensuring the organization remains safe, responsive, and sustainable.
- Supporting budgeting, operational planning, and the responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
- Partnering with the Executive Director to support grant development, fundraising initiatives, and strategic organizational projects.
- Building and strengthening relationships with community partners, funders, and stakeholders, representing VYES with professionalism and integrity.
WHO YOU ARE
- You enjoy helping people grow.
- You build trust through curiosity, authenticity, and respect.
- You know that the best ideas often come from the people doing the work, and you create opportunities for others to contribute.
- You believe operational excellence isn't just about efficient systems; it's about creating an environment where people feel heard, supported, and empowered.
- People leave conversations with you feeling more supported, more encouraged, and better equipped than when they arrived.
- You're energized by strengthening organizations, not by hierarchy.
- You understand that influence is earned through relationships, collaboration, and follow-through.
WHAT YOU BRING
We're looking for someone with:
- Degree in Business Administration, Leadership, Public Administration, Human Services, Non-Profit Management, Social Sciences, or related discipline (An equivalent combination of education and progressive leadership experience will be considered)
- Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in the non-profit, community services, health, education, or public sectors.
- Experience supporting managers or multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong operational, organizational, and project management skills.
- Experience with budgeting, organizational planning, and leading organizational change.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
- A commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and inclusive leadership.
- A genuine passion for helping people, programs, and organizations thrive.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary: $95,000–$110,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
We also offer:
- Comprehensive extended health and dental benefits
- Three weeks' vacation to start
- Professional development support
- A collaborative, values-driven leadership team committed to learning and continuous improvement
WHY VYES?
At VYES, you'll join an experienced and passionate team committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of youth and families.
You'll have the opportunity to strengthen an organization, support exceptional managers, and help create a workplace where collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement are part of everyday practice.
If you're excited by the opportunity to build systems that support people, and in turn, support better outcomes for youth and families, we'd love to hear from you.
Our Commitment to Inclusive Hiring
We know exceptional candidates come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. If this opportunity excites you, but you're unsure whether you meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply.
VYES is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities. Accommodations are available throughout the recruitment process upon request.
