About Goodie Hoops

Goodie Hoops is a fast-growing functional snack brand out of British Columbia. We make high-protein, better-for-you snacks sold direct-to-consumer and through an expanding wholesale network. We are a lean, mission-driven founding team standing up Wave 1 production and scaling fast. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape the people function at a brand with serious momentum.

The Role

As our first dedicated people hire, the Head of People owns all things team-building and people operations at Goodie Hoops. You report directly to the CEO and are accountable for recruiting, onboarding, HR compliance, culture, and the people infrastructure required to scale our team through Wave 1 and beyond.

This is a full-time permanent role with a 3-month probationary period. Compensation increases upon successful completion of the probationary review.

What You Will OwnRecruiting and Hiring

  • Scope, write, and post job listings for all open roles: production staff, wholesale reps, contractors, and future key hires
  • Own end-to-end recruiting: sourcing, screening, interviews, reference checks, offers, and closing
  • Fill Wave 1 production roles urgently: production crew, packaging staff, and ops support
  • Build and maintain a candidate pipeline for ongoing and future hiring needs

Onboarding and Integration

  • Design and execute structured onboarding for all new employees and contractors
  • Ensure all contracts, tools access, payroll setup, and role-specific training are completed before Day 1
  • Build and iterate onboarding playbooks for each department

People Operations and Compliance

  • Own all employment documentation: offer letters, employment agreements, contractor agreements, NDAs, and termination paperwork
  • Ensure full compliance with BC Employment Standards Act and applicable federal labour regulations
  • Oversee payroll coordination with Wagepoint and manage benefits administration as the team grows
  • Maintain, update, and enforce the employee handbook and HR policies
  • Manage WorkSafeBC registration and compliance as applicable to food production operations

Culture and Team Health

  • Build and protect a high-trust, high-accountability team culture from the ground up
  • Conduct regular team health check-ins and proactively surface people issues
  • Design and run performance review processes for all team members
  • Manage total compensation benchmarking and make recommendations as the team scales

People Strategy

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO on org design, headcount planning, and compensation philosophy
  • Build the people roadmap to support the company through Wave 1 production and future growth phases
  • Identify and mitigate people-related business risks before they become problems

What We Are Looking For

Must-haves:

  • 4 or more years in HR, people operations, or talent, with at least 2 years in a startup, scale-up, or high-growth environment
  • Proven end-to-end recruiter who can source, evaluate, and close candidates independently
  • Strong working knowledge of BC Employment Standards Act and federal labour law
  • Experience with payroll platforms such as Wagepoint or ADP
  • Excellent written and verbal communication: clear, direct, and professional
  • Self-starter who builds systems and structure where none exist

Strong assets:

  • Experience recruiting and managing hourly, production, or manufacturing staff in food and beverage
  • Familiarity with food production operations and applicable WorkSafeBC requirements
  • CPHR designation or working toward designation
  • Kelowna-based or willing to relocate

Compensation

During 3-month probationary period:

65,000 to 72,000 CAD per year (depending on experience)

Upon successful completion of probation (month 4 onward):

75,000 to 88,000 CAD per year (reflecting confirmed performance and expanded scope)

Additional:

  • Performance bonus eligibility after probation
  • Equity participation available subject to terms and vesting schedule
  • Extended health and dental benefits
  • Flexible hybrid work arrangement

Work Model

  • Hybrid: Kelowna, BC based
  • Mix of in-person and remote with regular in-person presence expected
  • Standard full-time hours with flexibility based on business needs

Why Now

We are building a brand in Wave 1: standing up production, hiring our first crew, and scaling distribution. The person in this role will define how we find talent, how we bring people on, and what kind of company we become. If you want to build a people function from scratch with real ownership and direct access to leadership, this is the role.
