Position Summary

The Cake Decorator is responsible for creating high-quality, beautifully finished cakes and specialty desserts that reflect Market Fresh's commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and exceptional customer experience. Working within our on-site scratch Bakery, this role focuses on decorating, finishing, presentation, and customer orders.

This is a high-volume production environment, and the ideal candidate will be comfortable decorating a large number of cakes efficiently while maintaining consistent quality and attention to detail. Previous experience in a grocery store or high-volume retail bakery is a strong asset.

We are seeking an experienced Cake Decorator with a minimum of 3 years of commercial cake decorating or bakery experience. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, reliable, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while taking pride in their work.

Job Structure

This is a full-time, hourly position. The work schedule includes weekends and holidays as required. Paid vacation accrual is provided at 4%. A health insurance plan is available after 6 months of full-time employment. Shifts are primarily daytime shifts beginning at approximately 8:00 a.m.

Responsibilities

  • Decorate and finish a high volume of cakes and specialty desserts to Market Fresh quality standards.
  • Prepare cakes for retail display and customer orders, including custom designs and special requests.
  • Consistently execute a variety of decorating techniques, including piping, borders, writing, icing, and finishing details.
  • Work efficiently to meet daily production requirements and customer order deadlines.
  • Maintain consistency in product appearance, portioning, and presentation.
  • Ensure cakes and decorating materials are properly prepared, labelled, stored, and handled.
  • Keep the decorating area, equipment, and workstations clean, organized, and sanitary.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with Bakery team members to prioritize production and fulfill customer orders.
  • Monitor inventory of decorating supplies and communicate when materials need to be replenished.
  • Provide friendly and professional service when assisting customers with cake orders and decorating requests.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment and support other Bakery duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Training

  • Formal culinary or pastry/baking education is preferred.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in a commercial bakery, pastry shop, cake studio, or high-volume food production environment.
  • Demonstrated cake decorating experience is required. A portfolio or examples of previous work are considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of scratch baking, pastry production, cake finishing, and decorating techniques.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain high standards in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional, dependable, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Interest in developing professionally and taking on increased responsibilities within the bakery department.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30-40 lbs.

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.0 – 44.0 per week
