Summary

E-W Metal Works is seeking a detail-oriented Manufacturing Detailer to join our growing team. Since 1950, E-W Metal Works has built a reputation for producing high-quality weldments, precision-machined components, and automation tooling for customers in the automotive, automation, aerospace, and industrial sectors.

The Manufacturing Detailer is responsible for converting engineering concepts and customer designs into accurate manufacturing documentation that supports fabrication, machining, welding, painting, and assembly. This position works closely with engineering, estimating, purchasing, and production to ensure projects move efficiently from quotation through final delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed manufacturing drawings from customer drawings, CAD models, and engineering concepts.
  • Produce material cut lists for saw cutting, CNC oxyfuel cutting, waterjet cutting, and machining operations.
  • Prepare detailed weldment drawings, including weld symbols, dimensions and fabrication notes in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Prepare manufacturing routers, job travelers, and production documentation.
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Coordinate with estimating to support costing and manufacturability reviews.
  • Work with purchasing to identify and source required materials and purchased components.
  • Support production by resolving drawing questions and implementing engineering changes.
  • Maintain revision control and document management within company systems.
  • Develop inspection documentation for Quality Control.
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives focused on improving quality, reducing cost, and shortening lead times.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of detailing experience in a fabrication, machining, or automation manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and practical manufacturing experience will be considered.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly processes.
  • Ability to interpret customer drawings, 3D models, and engineering specifications.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering tolerancing.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication and precision machining practices.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar modeling software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset:

  • Automotive tooling
  • Robotic automation systems
  • Workholding fixtures
  • CNC machining
  • CWB Welding
  • Welded structural assemblies
  • ERP/MRP systems
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk through the manufacturing facility and support production personnel.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment while on the production floor.
