Job Summary

Duties

  • Safely operate long-distance step-deck trailers to transport freight across various regions, adhering strictly to all traffic laws and safety regulations
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and load to ensure safety and compliance with company standards
  • Secure freight properly using appropriate tie-downs, straps, and other securing devices to prevent shifting or damage during transit
  • Utilize forklift skills to load and unload freight efficiently at warehouses or staging areas when necessary
  • Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, routes taken, and delivery documentation in compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and team members to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and any issues that arise on the road
  • Perform basic automotive repairs or troubleshooting as needed to keep the vehicle in optimal condition during long hauls

Experience

  • Proven experience as a commercial driver operating heavy-duty trucks, preferably with long-distance routes involving step-deck trailers
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) appropriate for operating heavy equipment on long hauls
  • Clean CVOR
  • Familiarity with freight handling procedures, securing loads, and heavy equipment operation
  • Basic automotive repair knowledge to identify common mechanical issues during extended trips
  • Prior experience with freight transportation across multiple states or regions is highly desirable
