Manager, Banquet Event Venue
Position Summary
The Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and daily operations of the banquet and event venue. This role ensures exceptional guest experiences, drives revenue growth, manages staff performance, and oversees all human resources functions, including recruitment, training, compliance, and employee relations. The Manager serves as the primary leader of the venue, ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, and a positive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations of the banquet and event space, including event execution, catering coordination, facility management, and guest services
- Ensure seamless planning and delivery of weddings, corporate events, social gatherings, and special events
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and service quality
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures
- Coordinate with vendors, clients, and event planners to ensure successful event execution
- Ensure compliance with all local health, safety, and liquor regulations
2. Financial Management
- Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts
- Monitor revenue, expenses, and profitability
- Implement cost-control strategies without compromising quality
- Review contracts, pricing structures, and vendor agreements
- Analyze sales performance and implement strategies to increase bookings and revenue
3. Sales & Client Relations
- Oversee sales strategy, marketing initiatives, and client acquisition
- Build and maintain relationships with corporate clients, wedding planners, and community organizations
- Review and approve event contracts
- Address and resolve client concerns professionally and promptly
4. Human Resources Management
- Lead all HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management
- Develop staffing plans to meet operational needs
- Manage payroll coordination, scheduling, and labour cost controls
- Ensure compliance local employment laws
- Handle employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and disciplinary actions
- Develop employee engagement and retention strategies
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and development plans
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation
5. Team Leadership & Culture
- Hire, train, and supervise managers, coordinators, culinary staff, and service personnel
- Foster a positive, professional, and high-performance work environment
- Set clear performance expectations and accountability standards
- Lead regular team meetings and training sessions
6. Facility & Vendor Management
- Oversee maintenance of the property, equipment, and event spaces
- Manage vendor contracts and partnerships for catering, decor, entertainment, and rentals
- Ensure inventory management and supply controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field (preferred)
- 5+ years of management experience in hospitality, event venues, hotels, or banquet facilities
- Demonstrated experience in HR management and employment law compliance
- Strong financial acumen and budget management skills
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Proficiency in event management software and HR/payroll systems
- Proficiency in CRM and accounting software, e.g., QuickBooks, Triple-Seat, Payworks, and event management systems
