Operations Manager – Napanee, ON
Upper Canada Fuel & Burner – Family-Owned & Growing

Upper Canada Fuel & Burner is a family-owned business with locations in Napanee, Peterborough, and Oshawa, serving residential, commercial, and agricultural customers across Eastern Ontario. Our Napanee location is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee fuel delivery and HVAC operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on supporting team performance, improving day-to-day operations, and building a positive, accountable workplace culture. You will be supported by senior leadership and internal resources across the organization.

The Opportunity
This role is ideal for an operations leader who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment and enjoys being involved in both leadership and day-to-day operations.

You will take ownership of daily operations while working closely with leadership to support employees, improve efficiency, and maintain a high level of service.

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead a team of approximately 20+ staff including drivers, HVAC technicians, dispatch, and administrative support
  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and selection in partnership with HR
  • Support performance management, coaching, and employee development
  • Address employee concerns and assist with discipline in collaboration with HR
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment and support improved morale

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily fuel delivery and HVAC operations to ensure efficiency and service quality
  • Support dispatch and scheduling to optimize routes, resources, and response times
  • Coordinate labour and equipment for installations, service work, and deliveries
  • Maintain oversight of company field equipment and assets

Fleet & Facility Oversight

  • Coordinate maintenance of fleet including tankers, service vehicles, and equipment
  • Work with vendors to arrange repairs and obtain pricing as needed
  • Ensure overall site maintenance, organization, and operational readiness

Safety & Compliance

  • Support site safety initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards
  • Assist with incident reporting, documentation, and follow-up actions
  • Ensure completion of required inspections and safety checks

Fuel & HVAC Operations

  • Monitor operational performance including productivity, delivery efficiency, and labour hours
  • Identify areas for improvement and support implementation of practical solutions
  • Oversee HVAC scheduling, parts coordination, and invoicing processes
  • Assist with fuel ordering and inventory management

On-Call & Operational Support

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours operational needs (primarily seasonal in winter months)
  • Provide hands-on support as needed, including time in the yard, working with drivers, and assisting with day-to-day operational challenges

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–5+ years of management experience in operations, logistics, transportation, or a related field
  • Post-secondary education in operations, logistics, business, or a related field (required)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on operational involvement
  • Experience in fuel, HVAC, or a related industry is considered an asset
  • Valid G class driver’s license; AZ or DZ class driver's license an asset but not required

Compensation & Schedule

  • Salary: $80,000 – $95,000 per year (based on experience)
  • Full-time, in-person position (approximately 40–50 hours/week) with on-call rotation
