Analytical Lab Supervisor/Manager

Vivariant Laboratories is a commercial testing lab focusing on customers in the emerging Canadian cannabis sector.
Job Overview
This is a management track position for the analytical chemistry division of Vivariant’s testing operations. The Analytical Lab Supervisor/Manager will be responsible for setting up, validating and conducting analytical testing methods in an ISO/IEC 17025 environment on cannabis and other samples per USP or other applicable compendia using a combination of LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP and other methodologies. Analytes will include cannabinoids, terpenes and terpenoids, pesticides, heavy metals, mycotoxins and moisture.
The Analytical Lab Supervisor/Manager will work independently to research, purchase equipment and validate analytical methodology that will meet the standard.
This Analytical Lab Supervisor/Manager will provide supervision, training and coordinating workflow of technician(s)
As more production testing is handled by the technician team longer term the supervisor/manager will be responsible for on-going quality in the analytical chemistry department as well as directing R&D efforts, throughput improvements and participating in the expansion of the company.
Responsibilities and Duties
● Assist with ground up planning for ISO 17025 accreditation
● Purchase and validation of equipment and reagents
● Plan, validate and document methods per applicable compendia
● On-going method QC
● Conduct production testing on client samples
● LIMS data entry and management
● Test Result and Test Report Approval
● Contribute to quality manual and other organizational documentation
● Interview new hire candidates
● Participate in business planning
Qualifications
● Minimum bachelor of Science in Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline or experience
● Lab experience in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory
● Demonstrated lab management experience
● Experience with a combination of Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, spectroscopic techniques for metal analysis and/or moisture determination
● Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation used in the above techniques
● Ability to deliver on a deadline for both client sample testing and decisions affecting the growing business
● The candidate will need to be able to stand for extended periods while performing laboratory work as well as sit for extended periods while working, carry heavy boxes and be able to perform lab work safely with hazardous materials.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $75,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
