Job Overview

Looking for a steady Monday-to-Friday driving position where you're treated like a professional and trusted to do your job?

McGILL Transportation is a family-owned LTL/TL transportation company serving Central Ontario, Northern Ontario, Toronto and the GTA.

We're looking for an experienced, dependable AZ or DZ driver who enjoys a variety of local and regional deliveries, takes pride in their work and wants to be part of a stable, professional team.

Our drivers are home daily, operating well-maintained equipment with the support of an experienced dispatch team.

No long-haul. No cross-border. Home daily.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate straight trucks and, for AZ-qualified drivers, tractor-trailer day cabs
  • Complete LTL pickups and deliveries throughout Central Ontario, Northern Ontario, Toronto and the GTA
  • Navigate city streets, commercial areas, highways and rural delivery locations
  • Plan and manage daily routes while adapting to changing pickup and delivery requirements
  • Safely back into loading docks and customer delivery locations
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns
  • Properly secure freight and assist with loading and unloading as required
  • Maintain accurate delivery documentation and communicate with dispatch
  • Provide professional, courteous service to customers
  • Work independently and make sound decisions throughout the day

Qualifications

  • Valid AZ or DZ driver's licence (AZ preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial driving experience
  • Clean driver's abstract and strong safety record
  • Experience with LTL, pickup and delivery, or multi-stop freight
  • Comfortable driving in both urban and rural environments, including Toronto and the GTA
  • Confident navigating unfamiliar customer locations
  • Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Dependable, punctual and professional
  • Able to work independently without constant supervision

Technology Requirements

Our drivers use smartphones and tablets as part of their daily responsibilities.

You must be comfortable with:

  • Electronic Hours of Service (ELD)
  • Mobile communication with dispatch
  • GPS navigation and electronic trip information
  • Electronic delivery documentation
  • Learning electronic Bills of Lading and shipment tracking systems as they are introduced

You don't need to be a technology expert, but you should be comfortable using basic mobile applications.

Additional Assets

  • Forklift experience or certification
  • Experience operating both straight trucks and tractor-trailers
  • Manual transmission experience
  • Extensive Ontario LTL/P&D experience
