FEMALE STAFF REQUIRED
Job Summary
Live-In Home Support Workers (LIHSW) are required to live at the worksite for a prescribed duration of time and are paid on a per-day basis. LIHSW respect individual’s rights and treat each individual with the same dignity he/she wishes to be treated with. LIHSW assist individuals with their physical, economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional and daily life skills development. LIHSW assist individuals to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- LIHSW assist individual(s) in activities of daily living and all personal care (when necessary) i.e.: getting up and going to bed; toileting, bowel care, monthly weight & vitals; feeding, if required; dressing and undressing; bathing and showering; regular toe-nail and fingernail trimming; hair care including brushing, shampooing and hair-cuts; brushing teeth and shaving; enhancing individual independence
- In addition to daily living activities, LIHSW will assist individual(s) with: their mail, personal shopping, etc.; keeping their rooms tidy on an ongoing basis; laundry, following laundry guidelines; and making beds.
- LIHSW will accompany individual(s) to medical appointments as required.
- LIHSW will dispense and sign for all medication as required during the shift, as well as record all missed or dropped medications on the appropriate form.
- LIHSW will read each individual’s binder at the beginning of their shift and, at the end of each shift, record any pertinent information. LIHSW will notify their Supervisor of any physical concerns, changes or challenges a resident may be experiencing.
- LIHSW provide assistance in individual program planning, design, implementation, evaluation and renewal as directed by the Supervisor. Moreover, in conjunction with the Supervisor, LIWSW assist individual(s) in recreation and leisure activities within and outside the house
- Read daily communication book on each shift, thus maintaining good communication with co- workers; record any incidents, concerns, etc.; ensure all critical and non-critical incidents are recorded on the appropriate form.
- Recognize, analyze, and deal with potential emergency situations such as clients’ aggressive behavior to ensure no harm comes to client and/or the public. Recognize, analyze, and manage potential emergency situations such as challenging behavior that may be perceived as distressing to ensure no harm comes to individual and/or the public. Use behavior modification techniques (NVCI) appropriately to diffuse situations as needed. Reports concerns or incidents to the Supervisor on the appropriate form. Reports problems to the Supervisor on the appropriate form.
- Ensure supplies are adequate and notify Supervisor when supplies are low.
- Know and conduct emergency procedures and be knowledgeable of all emergency equipment used.
- LIHSW assist in the regular upkeep of the home. During the winter, remove snow as required and ensure walk ways and stairs are clear of ice and snow. During the summer, do yard work and watering following the City’s watering schedule.
- Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations such as individuals’ aggressive behavior to minimize potential harm to the individuals and/or the public. Reports problems to the supervisor.
- Ensures health and safety standards are maintained.
- Reviews and evaluates individuals’ progress and makes adjustments to programs as required. Provides feedback and support to individuals and/or their families.
- Ensure the safety of persons served, self and equipment at all times.
- Attend in-service training and other training opportunities.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge and Other Certifications
Diploma in a related human/social service field is preferred;
LIHSW must have and maintain a valid first-aid certificate, food safe (or Caring About Food Safety online) certification, WHMIS and NVCI certification, undergo a TB test (and receive a negative result), and consent to a Criminal Record Check.
Training and Experience
One (1) year of recent related experience;
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Other Information
A Driver's License may be required as a condition of employment.
