In‑House Lawyer (Enforcement & Mixed Legal Matters)

Location: Canada (Hybrid / Remote Considered)
Type: Full‑Time, In‑House
Reports to: Senior Leadership / Internal Legal Function

About the Role

We are hiring an In‑House Lawyer (Enforcement & Mixed Matters) to support the organization’s internal legal needs beyond pure transactions. This role will focus on enforcement‑related matters, disputes, and a broad range of general legal issues, acting as a primary internal legal resource for the business.

This position offers variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape how internal legal support is delivered across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Enforcement & Dispute Matters

  • Manage enforcement actions, recoveries, and dispute‑related legal matters.
  • Oversee litigation strategy and liaise with external counsel as required.
  • Assess legal exposure and recommend pragmatic, cost‑effective solutions.

General In‑House Legal Support

  • Provide legal advice across operational, commercial, and regulatory matters.
  • Support internal teams on contract interpretation, issue resolution, and risk management.
  • Assist with internal policies, governance, and compliance initiatives.

External Counsel Management

  • Determine when matters should be escalated to external counsel.
  • Instruct and manage external lawyers, including reviewing work product and controlling costs.
  • Ensure consistency of approach across internal and external legal matters.

Legal Function Development

  • Help define internal legal scope, escalation protocols, and best practices.
  • Work collaboratively with internal transactional counsel to ensure comprehensive legal coverage.
  • Support the organization’s long‑term legal model, including future collaboration with independent external firms.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Licensed lawyer in good standing in Canada.
  • Experience in litigation, enforcement, disputes, or general commercial law.
  • Strong judgment and ability to manage complex, mixed legal matters independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Prior in‑house experience or a hybrid litigation / advisory background.
  • Comfortable working in a developing legal function with evolving structures.

Compensation: Salary: $150,000-$185,000, Annual bonus: $15,000-$25,000, plus a $10,000 signing bonus.

This is a new role.
