Overview

Contrada is seeking a Sous Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate should have a passion for food, a strong technical foundation in culinary skills, and excellent leadership ability to assist in the smooth operation of our kitchen. This role is ideal for someone currently in a management role or with management experience looking to transition over to a more boutique operation.

Contrada is an acclaimed restaurant in Toronto's Little Italy. Voted one of Canada's top new restaurants in 2024 by multiple publications, Contrada serves up high quality modern Italian fare. We are always pushing ourselves to constantly refine and improve our culinary offerings.

We are looking for a Sous Chef to assist with prep management, station coverage, and opening and closing the restaurant.

*Responsibilities*

- Have an in-depth knowledge of all areas of the kitchen, including prep, production, and setup and service on all stations

- Cover stations on cooks days off while also monitoring the quality of work being completed by all BOH staff

- Maintain extremely high standards for cleanliness, quality, and presentation

- Maintain and enforce food safety standards as well as health and safety standards

- Assist in menu planning and development, as well as production of feature dishes

- Support the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, including opening and closing the restaurant as needed

*Requirements*

- Minimum 5 years of cooking experience in fine dining or upscale establishments

- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, knife skills, and kitchen operations

- Leadership skills with the ability to supervise and manage a team effectively

- Positive attitude and a desire to lead by example

- Familiarity with food safety regulations

- Excellent communication and organizational skills
