Night Caregiver & Lab Data Assistant (Overnight Shift)

About the Position
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and scientifically-minded individual for a unique overnight position that combines caregiving and scientific data analysis.
The successful candidate will spend overnight hours at Vancouver General Hospital providing supervision and support for an elderly family member who is currently hospitalized. The patient is generally asleep throughout the night, and the primary responsibility is to monitor his condition, provide care and companionship if needed, and notify family members immediately should any concerns arise.
During quiet overnight periods, the successful candidate will perform remote scientific data analysis for a genetics laboratory. Full training will be provided.
This position is ideal for nursing students, biology graduates, biotechnology graduates, laboratory technologists. This position is for individuals seeking meaningful overnight work that combines caregiving with laboratory data analysis.
Primary Responsibilities
Caregiving Responsibilities
- Remain present overnight at Vancouver General Hospital
- Monitor and observe the patient throughout the night
- Provide care,
- companionship and reassurance if needed
- Notify family members immediately of any changes or concerns
- Communicate with nursing staff when appropriate
- Maintain accurate notes regarding overnight observations
Scientific Data Analysis Responsibilities (training will be provided)
- Review and analyze genetic testing data generated by laboratory instruments
- Assist with data review using GeneMapper software and related analytical tools
- Perform quality control checks on genetic data
- Document findings and complete routine analysis tasks
- Maintain confidentiality and data integrity at all times
No prior GeneMapper experience is required. Full training will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications
One or more of the following is strongly preferred:
- BSc or higher in Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Health Sciences, Nursing, or a related field
- Care aide or caregiving experience
- Laboratory experience
- Experience with scientific data analysis
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment
Requirements
- Must be available for overnight shifts (approximately 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Strong English communication skills
- Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout the shift
- Comfortable working in a hospital environment
- Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) required
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
