Full job description

Position Overview : Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Able to use precision instrument such as lathes, milling machines, drills, sharpers, boring mills and grinders in order to fabricate, modify or repair mechanical instruments. Must have strong knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Shifts : 7am to 3.30pm

Salary Range: $17.60

Required Skills:

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematicand instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers and lathes.
  • Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations
  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers
  • Being able to communicate (verbal and written) well with others in a fast pasted working environment
  • Crane, scissor lifts, and forklift certifications (preferred )
  • Take length, height and weight measurements of raw materialsCompare measurements of machined parts to measurements on scale drawings to ensure parts are produced within specified tolerances.
  • Estimate the amount of material required to carry out machining jobs.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Calculate the difference between raw and finished dimensions.
  • Review quality control data to examine trends in machine performance.
  • Calculate all finished product dimensions of a part before starting a job.
  • Adjust daily work schedules to accommodate rush jobs or jobs that take longer than expected.
  • Use formulae to calculate the placement of holes, sprocket teeth and shaft threads.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying Part Defects, such as short shots, flash, warp, surface defects and color changes.
  • Regrinding, trimming flash and de-gating plastic parts from runners.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Work closely with supervisor and other team members to manage and prioritize staffing assignments to ensure customer demands.
  • Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
